How do I babyproof an electrical baseboard heater?
Rather than fencing the little guy in, could you put a fence around the heater and fence him out?

When is a child ready to start playing with bricks?
Are you old enough to build something? Is the child old enough to knock it down? If so, you're good to go! Pretty soon she'll be building things with you to knock down.

What do you say when your child says "You're mean!"
Remember, we don't let them drive, vote, sign contracts, etc., because we don't think very highly of their judgement just yet. They think you're "mean" because you're not giving them what they want. What they want may not be what they need.

What to do when an eight-year old says "sorry" in a not sorry voice
If the behavior doesn't change, "sorry" is just a socially expected noise. Forget about the apology and work on changing her behavior. If she can't associate with people in a kind way, send her someplace boring and alone for an age-appropriate considerable period of time, and consistently. She may decide it's worth treating people nicely in order to be around them.

What are some great techniques for encouraging a reluctant reader?
Judging by my own experience, I could never have made it through college if "books just weren't my thing" and I "simply didn't like to read". A college education requires an immense amount of reading. If every paragraph of every page of every book is drudgery, how's a kid make it through? Simple - he doesn't. That's why teaching kids to read and to enjoy reading starts at birth and never ends. TV and video games suck up the reading time and make reading seem too much effort. Turn them off and leave them off.

How can I encourage my child to feed himself with a spoon?
If it's not working right now, why not wait a week or two and try again? Toilet-training is a model for lots of skills - - they are easy to teach when the child is ready to learn, and nearly impossible to teach (and a frustrating experience for everyone) if the child is not developmentally ready. Note that it's not intelligence I'm talking about. Children learn different things at different times.

Should I monitor my child's internet usage?
Unless you have the time to go through the logs on the router, that's not going to work. A better approach is light filtering at the router along with time spent with your kids. Limit their internet use to appropriate hours and limited time.
