Aug 23, 2012 at 21:31 comment added Torben Gundtofte-Bruun @Homer6: Debunking (or confirming!) myths like this is exactly where our sister site Skeptics.SE shines! I don't want to put my own opinion here (facts would be better; I have none) and I hope you find a good answer!

Aug 23, 2012 at 14:54 comment added Homer6 "The benefits of having ultrasounds to check that everything is healthy far outweigh any (potentially nonexistent) bad effects." This is the mantra of every person I talk to on the subject. Yet, no one can actually back it up and I've read of several doctors who have done research showing legitimate claim that it's likely false. I'm not swallowing that pill without some sound reasoning. What are these mysterious benefits? And what proof is there that there's no risk?
Aug 23, 2012 at 7:57 comment added Dave Clarke I would be wary of such a midwife. Is she a certified-nurse midwife? There are different types, and some a more qualified than others to deal with irregular situations. naturalbirthandbabycare.com/midwives.html

Aug 16, 2012 at 21:22 comment added Homer6 I'm wary of all wisdom... even my so-called own wisdom. But point taken. Thanks.
Aug 16, 2012 at 21:16 comment added dave Cool. Be wary of the wisdom on the masses though. Google "vaccinations cause autism" to get an idea of its value.
Aug 16, 2012 at 20:53 comment added Homer6 Thanks. I'll try that. Although, I value other parents' opinions too.
Aug 16, 2012 at 20:40 comment added dave Your best bet would be to post this on the skeptics web site. There, you will get reasoned and cited discussion of the claim. Here, you are likely to just get parents' opinions.
