Sep 30 at 20:10 comment added Stephie @Pyrotechnical thank you for the copy editing. Please note that the question as is is still opinion based. (Yes / no / perhaps all valid for the current phrasing of the question.) Plus, the entire question is hypothetical, as stated by the author, based solely on the observation of some parents and their children in the asker’s locale, but without any personal knowledge or involvement. And Southern Europe strictly speaking includes both rural Albania and Monaco (plus a lot of variety in between), but that’s just a minor detail.

Aug 29 at 20:11 comment added Pyrotechnical I am voting to close as this site's purpose (from the tour) is intended for, "...questions about an actual problem you have faced." Hypotheticals do not meet this criteria.
Aug 29 at 16:05 comment added George Ntoulos @anongoodnurse I'd rather use theoretical (existing only as an idea, rather than being real or actually happening) than hypothetical (imagined or suggested but not necessarily real or true:) I feel strongly about the nuances of hypothetical. Being in contrast with reality and truth (much worse) in particular is strange. I edited accordingly but I'd rather leave it with just theoretical (or some synonym like abstract or conceptual).

Aug 29 at 15:17 comment added anongoodnurse @GeorgeNtoulos - Is this an actual problem you're asking about? Do you have children or are you asking for someone facing this problem? I seem to remember you have no children. Hypotheticals might best be labeled as such, or there will be a lot of questions (age? Route? City? Traffic? Country? Laws? etc.) Also, it's hard to be definitive when it's a hypothetical, as in real life, problems may be very specific.

Aug 29 at 13:20 comment added ave Country would also be useful, but due to miles and general car dependency I'm going to assume USA.
Aug 29 at 13:04 comment added George Ntoulos @ChrisH If one can group different ages and not have a different approach for each year that would be helpful. But the question was general and explicitly asked how the choice changes with growth.

Aug 29 at 10:36 comment added George Ntoulos @A.bakker Age was purposely left out. There is no specific age. If anything the question is general and explicitly asks how the choice changes with their growth.
