I do feel that the grounding was a bit of an overreaction, it was simply that the act happened the same night as the request to get their own back, after already implementingthe "fences", which did create an emotional response in me. I have since sat down and talked about "making good decisions" and being a "good example" for his little brother (and writing it all down to hopefully enforce the positive message - not line, just asa reminder message).
