Jul 21, 2017 at 17:03 | comment | added | MAA | I will add that many music teachers (including myself) often don't start young children (under age 5 or 6) with individual keys, but rather with key groups that are played with the whole hand at once. This helps avoid fatigue, and frustration at having insufficient fine motor skills. It also helps them start thinking of their hand as a unit that moves all at once. I'd say there are more and less harmful ways to approach teaching a child any subject at any age, and the key is to know what you're doing. But I have never heard of anything remotely heart-related associated with the piano. | |
