For religious people, faith teaches them "why". These things don't generally intersect without someone trying to force them to. When they do intersect, children can be encouraged to look at the situation from different perspectives and decide which is more applicable at that time. Talking at length about how dead things decompose might not be wise at Grandma's funeral, for example. Talking about how precious and short life is might be a better choice.
