my 3 years and 1 month old son is not eating hard fruits like guava, cucumber etc. He eats apple, banana and other fruits which are soft. He doesn't eat cashew nuts, almonds or even peanut candy. If I give him any hard food like raw sliced carrot or anything he just chews once and spits it out. He chews and swallows cooked vegetables and boiled rice.

Has he been seen by his pediatrician? Is he meeting milestones for speech? – Marisa Jan 10 at 17:27
  • I didn't ask about this to pediatrician. But he is having atleast 9 months delay in speech. – Nilah Jan 10 at 22:28
  • What about other things, like pieces of hot dogs(?), or small chunks of candy bars(?), or cruchy pretzels, cereal, toast(?). Does he have normal dental development? – elbrant Jan 11 at 1:16
  • Started teething in 12 month. He have normal dental (20 teeth) development now.He eats cereal, toast, pizza etc.But he only avoids things that are little hard.If he finds raw even a small piece of coconut, carrot while eating he spits out.He eats cookie with chocolate but wont eat cookie with nuts. – Nilah Jan 11 at 2:31

@Nilah It is INCREDIBLY common for speech to be related to food, because food teaches the children to use their tongue and lips in much the same way as speech. I would talk to your pediatrician, and get a referral for a speech therapist if you don't have one already. – Marisa Jan 11 at 13:25
