How can I stop my toddler from playing with electrical outlets and plugs? "Get power bars which are too complicated for children to operate[.]" That sounds like a recipe for the kid getting the device into a state from which the parents can't figure out how to recover! :-) |

We're looking to get pregnant - what can we do to optimize our chances? Lots of good information here. One thing to keep in mind though: have fun! If sex feels like a chore, you're doing it wrong. If you're doing everything right and still having trouble getting pregnant, don't feel bad about getting you both checked out for any possible problems. |

When can I cover my baby with a blanket in her crib? Tossing this up as a comment since it's not really an answer: I didn't realize that it was an issue. My 4.5 mo son has been sleeping with a blanket pretty much since birth without problems. In fact, he loves cuddling up with it now. |

What television shows could I show my toddlers to encourage multilingual learning? @Andra: But why does she like it? It's probably not because she can read the German. My own children didn't learn language in a vacuum -- my wife and I were there to guide them. I'm not sure that children can gain fluency in a language without a real human instructor. They might be able to pick up words and string them together, but who's going to guide them in structuring sentences, word forms, subject/object distinctions, verb tenses and conjugation, etc.? Who's going to correct them when they make mistakes? (e.g. We say "many things", not "much things") |

What to buy to prepare for the arrival of a new baby? Don't forget the diapers! (A great tip: One of the conditions of my wife's baby shower was that guests were to bring a package of diapers. We didn't have to buy diapers for our first kid for nearly 4 months.) |
