comment At what age do kids start sleeping through the night?
FWIW, every child is different. My wife and I were spoiled by our first child, who slept from ~9pm - 4am, fed, then went back to sleep until 7 or 8 am. Our 2nd was up every hour for the first 6 months, and drove my wife absolutely insane. Our 3rd used to wake up every 3-4 hours for the first few months, and has been sleeping from 8pm - 7am since about 4 months old.

comment How strict should we be with our 14 month old boy?
@Renesis: If that question were easy to answer, parenting would be easy. ;-)

comment When to allow children to consume sugar/candy/sweets/junk?
Before someone else gets them hooked on junk food. Yes, it's smarmy, which is why I made it a comment. Cookies, ice cream, cake, chips, and other junk foods are staples of school-time snacks and parties. I think it'd be best to have your children at least acclimated to their existence and used to seeking out the healthy alternatives when provided a choice before someone else gets him used to seeking out the junk food whenever possible because you're providing zero availability. @MichaelF has the right idea: All things in moderation.

comment What are some hacks and gadgets for a soon-to-be dad?
+1 - Good idea! Considering that the higher end baby monitors can cost nearly as much as a decent cordless phone, that's a good idea. Unless, of course, your house has gone cell-phone only, like mine. :-P

comment What are some hacks and gadgets for a soon-to-be dad?
@torbengb: Agreed! I have a DSLR camera and a decent (if SD) camcorder. However, my wife and I have more useful pictures and footage from our cellphones than those high-end devices. As the saying goes: "The camera you have with you is more useful than the one you don't." That said, our best pictures are from the DSLR, so it's very useful when we know we're going to want to take pictures. (We really don't use the camcorder enough.)

comment Is it important to encourage children to experience historic events?
+1 - Of particular note: It's entirely possible that your children's friends will be talking about it the next school day. While it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, it saves them from being left out of most conversations for the next few days.

comment What are some tips for making an international flight with a toddler?
Don't let slightly older children see the wings at landing and takeoff, lest they do what my daughter did: Scream out in terror "The plane is going to crash! The wing is broken! Look, there's a huge hole in it!"

comment Can a school prevent a child from walking home?
Tagged for you. Added safety, figuring that this is probably the cloak that the school is hiding behind. If that's not the case or you disagree, I'll remove it.

comment Which breeds of dog are safe to have around a toddler?
@HedgeMage: Thanks. The report struck me as raising more questions than answers as well, but we're delving into chat territory now.
