How do I persuade my 4 year old daughter that School is Cool? This sounds more like a fear of change or the unknown than anything in particular wrong with school. However, once she's been going for some time, gently probe and see if there's anything in particular she's having problems with. |

How to stop a baby of trying to reach things that he really wants? Okay, so it's just my kids then. :-) |

How to stop a baby of trying to reach things that he really wants? Has this "give them a toy laptop/smartphone/widget" ever actually worked for anyone? Because it's never worked for me. Even in the infant "I'm just beginning to figure out how to manipulate things" stage, they've never been able to capture my children's attention like my own widget. Whether it's an age-appropriate children's toy or even my previous smartphone (which still worked and did smartphone things), they'd rather have the one I'm using. |

How can I tell parents of a 1-year-old that they're doing it wrong? I definitely like @balancedmama's idea: It might be a good direct icebreaker, especially if you can get your own kids to help pitch in on things like bedtime rituals. |

How can I deal with my unreasonable 8 year old with ADHD? -1 - Parents don't get ADHD medication for no reason. If you'd like to have a debate about the possible over-diagnosis ADHD, this question isn't the place for it. |

How can I prevent my 9 month old from eating anything and everything? As my pediatrician put it: "Have you ever had a puppy that chews on everything? It's kind of like that. Your son is that puppy. Eventually he'll grow out of it." Until then I just have to use the eyes on the back of my head. Silly me thought that a mouthful of dirt was its own punishment! |

I suspect my teenager is using illegal drugs; what should I do? +1 for providing perspective from the teen's side of the fence |

How do you get a teenager to take shorter showers? I'm not sure this has anything to do with teenagers. I still take long showers. My wife and oldest child can be in and out in less than 10 minutes. My middle child will run out the hot water in the tank -- she's the primary reason we'll never have a tankless water heater. |

How does a parent that does not know a basic life skill make sure their child obtains that skill? I like the CBeebie's Cooking Game link but I think that a 12-year old would find it a bit too childish. The second link is good though. |

How does a parent that does not know a basic life skill make sure their child obtains that skill? @DaveClarke: You should write up an answer expanding on that. One can't really teach something that they're unable to do. I think another thing to be careful for is that the father doesn't some to rely on or expect the daughter to cook for him. |

Arguments for/against same birthday for siblings? If your biggest concern this late in the pregnancy is how close the actual birthday is to your other child's, you're a pretty lucky guy. :-) |

How do I stop my 3yr old from wetting the bed at night? If at all possible, I'd go with "wake the child up to go to the toilet" rather than "carry him or her to the toilet." You want the child to understand that waking up and moving himself or herself to the toilet is the important part. It also helps if this can be done at a consistent time too. |

What games are good to play with teens in the car? Making fun of others and attempting to induce anaphylactic shock don't strike me as particularly great ideas. With the prevalence of cell phones, there may be some interesting times to be had by actually chatting with people in neighboring cars though, rather than making fun of them. |
