What's the best way to deal with bedwetting? While I'm sure opinions on this will vary, our kids' pediatrician suggested that pull-ups will simply make it take longer for a child to learn to control his or her bladder, since it makes it easier to sleep through nighttime wetting. That said, it certainly makes it easier on the parents, so make your choice accordingly. |

What should I consider when flying with an infant? A few additional things to consider: There are only four masks per three-seat row, so only one "lap child" is allowed per row. Most US airlines no longer grant "priority seating" to families, one notable exception being Southwest, which allows families to board at the beginning of the "B" group. |

How do I make sure I don't mix up identical twin newborns? We follow a similar rule, although we don't prevent our boys from picking the "wrong" colors if that's what they pick out to wear... which results in those being pretty confusing days for us and their teachers. :) |

Is there software that helps teach pre-schoolers to recognize letters? @David, it wouldn't be free -- the NSF (the National Science Foundation in the US) routinely funds this kind of project. The only issue would be timing.. which might be a show-stopper here. Presumably you want the software while your child is still young. :) You might try contacting the Linguistic Data Consortium (ldc.upenn.edu) and asking them, since they develop grant-funded educational tools and also might know programmers willing to do freelance work. |

Is there software that helps teach pre-schoolers to recognize letters? What language? You could probably find a university willing to put this into a grant proposal, and have a graduate student do the programming. |

How do you feed a picky eater? I completely agree that this is the obvious, right approach. Now, if I could just convince my wife that it's not "cruel" to refuse to let our kids have an alternative dinner if they turn down the one we prepared. :) Picky eating is a problem unique to affluent cultures, and stems from kids being given too many choices. You eat what's for dinner, or you don't eat. (Although "what's for dinner" definitely needs to take into account known allergies, etc.) |

How do I explain regional differences in language? I like the point about wrong and right vs. expectations. It reminds me of some excellent (if humorous) advice I once heard: "There are two answers to every question in school. The right answer, and the answer your teacher wants to hear. I expect you to know them both." |
