comment Homework in schools in England
You see, I learnt to read and write when I was 7, and I don't really feel disadvantaged by this in any way. That is why spending weekends for a couple of years to teach a 4-yeard old writing, which she could learn in a week when she is 7, is just not something I am convinced is the most reasonable use of her (our) time.

comment Convincing 18-month baby to sleep in the morning - using a training clock?
@justkt, we noticed that teething definitely causes him to wake up earlier. Excessive sleeping during the previous day has a similar effect (so we started limiting his naps). Other than that we didn't see any patters. His room has window blinds and curtains on top, so it is really dark in the morning.

That's what we do (take him in to our bed). But to be honest we are already annoyed....

comment Party games for the 4-th birthday
@Erica, our budget is rather low, so we can't afford to hire an entertainer. The room could have been bigger, we were expecting less people to accept the invitation.

comment Teaching a (almost) 3 year old she can fall asleep on her own
We do have a routine, and it works well in general. However, when the routine is over and its finally time to fall asleep, she would just insist on having one of us next to her, usually holding hands etc. Also I just don't understand why she wakes up during the night.

The problem we are having is that she would just never tell us what is the problem, even though she speaks very well in general.

We started using the night light a few months ago already.

Sounds like a great idea! I have a big old laser printer, so printing is rather cheap in my case.

comment Should we use a smiley chart to reward/punish our toddler?
@TorbenGB, the other question seems to relate to much older kids (6-8 as opposed to 2), hence the answer is not really relevant in this case.

comment How can you deal with tantrums without spanking?
I usually try to give only two choices: do you want this or that? The funny thing is that my daughter often comes up with a third option.
