How can we avoid tantrums over sweets and cakes? I can't vote this one up enough. Never give in to a tantrum, EVER. I've actually had a kid that threw a tantrum because one of his siblings did something unfair, and I've had to not let the one throwing a tantrum win... |

What are the next steps after a twin mix-up has been discovered after several years? @torbengb: Yes, but how would anyone ever prove that the name mix-up occurred? Unless there's some very good evidence, maybe fingerprints at birth or something like that, in which case, I would agree, the legal name change should be done, but aside from that... |

What type of tracking technology is practical for young children? @HedgeMage: I suppose your right. I guess anyone who'd kidnap someone would take the time to become familiar with such things... |

What type of tracking technology is practical for young children? I doubt most people would be familiar with a GPS tracking device, at least enough to destroy it... |

What disorder is associated with social awkwardness, hugging, intelligence, and difficulty focusing? @Koert: That's what I've always thought about it. It's a really interesting syndrome, or whatever you want to call it, it's worth knowing about because it can help you better fit in the world, but I do agree that people who have it aren't fundamentally wrong, or anything like that. |

How can firearms be secured from children? @Hedge: Sure, but you could place them at least somewhat differently, say, in different drawers of the same dresser, or on two different bookshelves. Even that little bit of additional protection is huge. |

What are the pros and cons of adopted children taking their adoptive parents' name? Thanks for the info. I was planning on talking with my kids before making the decision, but I want to know what the pros and cons each way. |

What should we be considering when adopting a sibling for our 4-year-old son? @MasterZ: I'll try an add a bit more to that section. |

How should I handle my foster son saying he's not my 'real' kid? I suspect that it's "Some foster kids don't get that you would have any feeling about it at all, and are just trying to be precise.", but that only helps so much... Sigh. |

What can I do to encourage my 12 year old son to enjoy productive activities? He has become involved with scouting recently, and it's considerably helped this problem, I must say. |

Is bribing children with cash incentives a good idea? +1 for not telling them in advance their reward. |

How do you deal with a 9 year old not doing their homework? There's a number of factors. I suspect the biggest one is she just doesn't do it because there's lots of other fun stuff to do (The fun stuff is slowly going away...), but there are other reasons. |

How do you deal with a 9 year old not doing their homework? Which is pretty much what I would do, but it's nice to have confirmation. |
