comment How to teach a 3yo to endure during hikes?
+1: My little boy and I go "Dinosaur Hunting", which means we yell and run away a lot. He'll run away from dinosaurs for hours, but ask him to hike for 5 minutes and he gets "tired" in 2 :)

comment Is it dangerous to microwave formula if I swirl the bottle and test the temperature afterwards?
+1 At about 6 months I'd enough of trying to carefully heat night bottles for our son while stupefied from lack of sleep, and started microwaving them. I reasoned that any loss of nutrition would be minor given that at the time the recommendation was to make bottles with boiling water. After microwaving I'd shake the bejesus out of the bottle to mix everything up and negate any hot spots. We've a happy healthy little boy with no nutritional problems and no eating problems. I think the "don't microwave" directive exists because "people" en-mass can't be trusted to think sensibly, or at all.

comment Is it safe for one-year old baby to sleep in her car seat for long hours?
NB: The "2 hour rule" isn't a "silly" recommendation, it's to safeguard against respiratory problems that can occur in infants kept too long in that position in the car seat.

comment Two year old starting creche, completely hyper when he comes home
Da01: "creche" is Europe what "Day Care" is to America, the place preschoolers go while their parents work :)

Good point, I seriously doubt he's as active in there as he is at home.

comment Two year old starting creche, completely hyper when he comes home
Over the last two months or so he's been dropping his afternoon naps, now he might have a nap once a week or so. Otherwise there's no changes, he's going down a little earlier than before, but he's sleeping better on the whole. So no, I don't think its a sleep issue :)

comment Why do kisses stop a child from hurting?
"You can tell them that they aren't hurt at all" I'd be careful with this one, if they are genuinely hurt this directly contradicts what they are feeling, and they can learn to distrust you, if it's over used. We always ask "What Happened?" even if the only answer is "Toe! Bump toe!" it allows the child to put a narrative around the pain, which makes it less scary, and allows the kiss-it-better placebo to work better (we find).

comment Is it okay for both parents to be asleep at the same time?
Angel care monitor! They are a sanity saver :) pressure pad monitors baby movement down to each breath, goes off if insufficient activity for 10 seconds or so.
