comment From what age should one heed “But I'm not cold!”?
This is probably worth another question, but one I'd need to ask anonymously :)

No, the child is outside and has taken off the coat :)

But will they get poorly? That's the main accusation: "If you stay out dressed like that, you'll catch your death of cold, and then it's me who has to stay up all night looking after you".

comment How different cultures teach kids about sex
@aparente001, true, but ideally parents would cultivate openness such that children would feel free to come and ask for confirmation of whatever they hear. Ideally...

comment 3 year-old boy wants constant attention, hits and deliberately poops in underpants when he doesn't get it
I'd far rather have a parent be in favour of corporal punishment and applying it as stated here, than being theoretically against, and yet finding themselves 'lashing out' in moments of anger. Or (far more damaging in my opinion) withdrawing relationship as 'punishment'. Probably worth pointing out that kids are very different. Some will rarely - if ever - need this kind of intervention.

comment How do you raise an intelligent and happy daughter in a sexist world?
"control her waaaaay less", if I thought the OP was only trying to control her daughter I'd be less worried. Her question reads like she wants to control the universe!

comment What do you do with the cousins who, at birthday parties insist on opening the presents when they are not the guest of honor?
@MilesRout, did you miss the 'not talking to her parents for three months' bit? :)

comment When a child only gets enthused about books above his reading level
Read it to him, or 'share' the reading when he gets fed up? I wouldn't consider that a cop-out: I met some unschoolers recently who still regularly read to the teenage children, even though they're perfectly able to read themselves.

comment Explaining sexual attraction
Thanks for the reassuring words about thinking :) I guess I'm not sure how to impart caution and independence without transmitting fear and suspicion (or outright incredulity and rebellion).

comment Explaining sexual attraction
@MaryJoFinch, they may figure out female sexual attraction (through their own experience of it), but I fear that without insight into male sexual attraction, the learning process can be long, and painful.

comment How to address hemming and hawing?
Yeah, we get this too (slightly older), I wonder sometimes whether it's about not wanting to answer, or (in the case of asking about what happened at school) compartmentalising ("I don't want to think about school now I'm back home")...

comment Can my 18 months old boy learn from watching movies?
You may want to consider whether watching a movie on your laptop is not a way for him to get more time with you... :)

comment At what age can a child be left alone in a parked car?
Ah memories... I must have been 7 or 8 when my father left me and my brother in the car while popping in to a shop. He'd just left the car in gear, no handbrake. And I pressed the clutch and the car started rolling! I remember pushing down the brake pedal with all my strength and screaming at my brother to 'get Dad'. All's well that ends well, but...

Toddlers are the only age group that it's worth actually buying DVDs for!

comment Is it healthy for toddlers to play outside when it is cold?
Re the criticism, I suspect that all most parents care about is the symptoms, not the virus :)

comment Should I make my child respond to me in my language?
topical anecdote from this weekend: "Why do I have to call you 'Daddy'? Everyone else in Switzerland calls their father 'Papa'!"

comment Should I make my child respond to me in my language?
My youngest says she doesn't want to talk English, but the other day I honestly didn't understand what she was trying to say in French, and she just trotted it out in English, which was reassuring. You could try to augment the exposure by only allowing TV in Danish :)

comment Can a son share a bed with his girlfriend, at 27?
"I'm unsure of the origin of their concerns." Why? The fact that you're coming here and asking us instead of asking them seems a bit weird to me, especially in the context of an "otherwise happy relationship." To be honest, without knowing what is motivating them, I don't feel there's much that we can do here except speculate.
