comment How do I stop yawning so much when I'm reading bedtime stories to my kids?
+1 for "parents of small children are always sleepy"

comment How can I help when the parents don't acknowledge their child 's learning disability?
Is she a first or only child? That might explain why she's a bit behind. Maybe if you couched your arguments (and thoughts) in terms of "slow developer", rather than "learning disability", they'd be more palatable?

comment What is the recommended age for an infant to start sleeping in his own room?
You really need to drop that "should" :) There are precious few real "shoulds" in parenting. Weigh up the pros and cons, discuss with your partner, and make your own mind up. Don't let anyone tell you what you "should" do... (except me, right now)

comment My 4.5yr-old girl is afraid of death. What should I do?
Just an aside: in English, we don't typically call a 4.5 year old 'baby', generally children stop being babies when they start moving around (thus becoming 'toddlers').

comment When and how should I teach my kids to touch-type?
Marking as answer, but I'd still be concerned about starting this before the child gets 'good enough' to not be bothered.

comment When and how should I teach my kids to touch-type?
Yes, and no. The big problem with typing is being 'good enough'. I know programmers who've been programming for decades, and still hunt and pecking (with varying numbers of fingers). And even though I learnt to touch type, my backspace key still sees far more wear than the others. I am totally in favour of abandoning joined-up writing and going straight to the keyboard ;)

Of course, if you can touch-type, you don't need to change the keyboard, just the driver :)

I'm not sure I buy that stuff about motor coordination. I started piano lessons when I was 6. Is there some qualitative difference between playing the piano and typing? I'm more convinced by finger-span.

Thanks, I think you're right about when and how. It'd be Qwertz anyway here :) Looks like I need another excuse for DIYing a Das Keyboard :)

@AarthiDevanathanΨ, you forgot Typing of the Dead :) I learnt with the simplest of DOS programs, can't remember the name right now.

comment When is it too old to go Trick or Treating?
I'm in Switzerland, and generally don't generally 'reward' ghouls, zombies and monsters, but a solitary ten-year-old dressed as Charlie Chaplin turned up last night, complete with 'dance' routine. Even treated us to a slapstick 'falling down the steps' after receiving his booty!

comment Is “hot saucing” bad parenting?
@Christine, I didn't interpret anything written here as implying spanking should be used as punishment. Also note that in your first comment you treat 'spank' and 'hit' as synonyms. I don't think they are.
