How do I explain good sportsmanship to a 4 year old? Agreed. I think if the game allows, add another adult in the game so there will be an adult loser to SHOW how to lose. Kids are impressionable. If they saw an adult being a sore loser, they may be mimicking that. You can correct it with model behavior. |

Should I send my child to Kindergarten early? @ReadyToLearn - I'm not trying to have a homeschool vs. school debate since the question already implies a school so the choice of setting is not relevant to the answer. You don't need research to support the word "challenge" as every day play and learning new tasks (how to use the toilet, use utensils, etc) are little challenges to babies/kids. Challenges to promote emotional growth you come across in social settings (such as in school/play-dates but not exclusively) are sharing, empathy, self control of your thoughts and actions, handling a bully, independence from the caregivers, etc. |

When should a child stop using a pacifier, and how can I help with this transition? @David - That's great, sounds like it was a success! :) I think it helps when kids are part of the process and the paci doesn't disappear into thin air. I would imagine that would be very stressful to have no control over their security object. |

How do we teach our toddler that it's okay to go on the potty? You commented that your son is scared. I think him seeing Daddy or other little boys go will give him courage and comfort. Seeing older people not avoid the potty might help him come to terms with it. Also, as the person raising the question, feel free to modify he title as you see fit. I had taken your comments into account with my answer. Good luck! |

When should an infant stop sucking on her hands? Let her be a baby for now. You won't know if she will be a bona-fide "thumb sucker" until later. If it bugs you, offer a teether or toy to keep hands busy. Every baby gets over their need to suck but some have a longer need for it than others. Our pediatrician says 2 yo is early to get over sucking phase and 10 yo is pretty late. |

Can pacifier-use interfere with breastfeeding? Thanks for sharing. We introduced the bottle because some nurses pressured me while at the hospital. We've also tried a dropper for the breastmilk too and the baby was sucking it like a straw. I was afraid the dropper was causing some confusion as well so we stopped that too. |
