@Joe, she's still too young to worry about social or long-term effects. I'm fairly confident she'll be fine reading in public eventually. I'm also fairly confident her reading skills are moving in the right direction. Part of my reason is simple curiosity, and part making sure we're giving her reading material that is neither condescending nor too challenging.
