Wondering how our software development process works? Take a look!

Find me on twitter, or read my blog. Don't say I didn't warn you because I totally did.

However, I no longer work at Stack Exchange, Inc. I'll miss you all. Well, some of you, anyway. :)

I don't know if I'd go right to "call the authorities". Go to the kids' parents first, for sure.

comment Where can we find ideas for activities for our toddler?
per pediatrician recommendation, try to avoid TV until the age of two, or close to it, if possible: parenting.stackexchange.com/questions/3/…

your question is not clear. Can you elaborate?

comment When your child says something embarrassing in public… how do you deal with it?
if it is "say it to me, the parent, first" that is better, I mildly object to "whisper it to me, the parent, first" just on the basis of encouraging (even accidentally) talking behind people's backs, etc.

hmm, I'd be hesitant to advise saying things secretly about others as a normal conversation pattern.. more like, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all? (once they can distinguish between the two, of course)

everyone knows she can't be a witch unless you put her in water and she floats to the top..

comment What is the impact on kids of having two working parents?
yeah, we love our family daycare, and I feel our son is learning a ton there from the other kids of various ages (mostly older, as far as learning goes, but I suppose he is teaching the younger kids too) but ... welcome to the world of being constantly sick. It's inevitable. Imagine how people who work at hospitals or schools feel! :P

comment How much pressure should I put on my kids to learn?
we generally like a bit more context than this in answers. Is there a summary or a paragraph or two that best explains?

comment What are some tips for making an international flight with a toddler?
I am sorry you found my comment upsetting. I was just pointing out that the OP said the child was 20 months old and may not be able to constructively talk to, much less play, with other children at that age without extremely close supervision. YMMV.

not a whole lot of talking going on at 20 months IMHO

comment How do you know if you're ready to be a parent?
@javid I tend to agree but the responses so far are reasonable. Let's make it all community wiki from inception and monitor it.

comment When is physical punishment appropriate?
I think of physical punishment as the Mutually Assured Destruction nuke -- you need it around as a deterrent, but if you use it, everyone tends to lose.

soliciting opinions is exactly the opposite of what this site is about -- so be sure that your opinions are BACKED UP with either a reference, or a personal experience.

comment Should we discourage our toddler from taking sippy cups to bed?
good to know, but per "due to milk sitting on them all night, and/or badly misaligned teeth due to nighttime sippy-cup chewing" I wouldn't characterize him as falling asleep with it in his mouth.

@hedge a little of both, probably. He's a milkaholic.

comment When should I transition a 2 year old toddler from the cot to a bed?
I really agree this is almost common sense: "Make the shift when your kids start climbing out of their cots them self, or when they ask for it."
