What should be done when your child wakes up from a nap and is extremely irritable? We find that some children tend to wake "harder" than others from sleep and naps. It's tough. |

What are some suggestions for punishing a child? I love that your rules apply to you, too! We try to do this in various ways, so it's clear that the rules are fair. For example, after one incident with a minor spanking at daycare, we told our child this was not acceptable because "we don't hit" and we made a great big deal out of the fact that we talked to the daycare provider and told them physical hitting wasn't acceptable -- and they apologized to our child. We applied the same rules to the adults as the child. It's only fair. |

Email and social media for pre-teens @monsto interesting, do you have a similar attitude toward laws about the drinking age? I agree that "follow the rules" isn't the full story, and I agree with your answer here about explaining what the risks are. But these sorts of age laws (generally) exist for a reason, to protect children. My attitude is that laws, such as legal drinking and internet use ages, should always be followed unless there is some clear and compelling and exceptional reason not to. |
