To medicate or not to medicate? Tried Montessori (class of 9 with 2 teachers) - wonderful teachers, still a trial. Tried the medicine - pressure from Dr. for higher dose, sticking with just enough to make a difference, feels like kid+! |

How do you investigate what's going on in the pre-kindergarten classroom? Depends on the school. In the public system, most teachers welcomed the help. In the Montessori schools we have been involved in (3), they asked for volunteers for very specific things, usually just field trips, not in the classroom. They did, however, have scheduled classroom visitations. They also had much lower student/teacher ratios (8:1, 11:2). |

To medicate or not to medicate? @DA01 I'm referring to the stigma that there is something wrong with a child on medication. I don't like the label either. It's seems like a way to stereotype the children. |

scientific parenting book for newborns thru pre-school An anonymous user suggested: "Try What's Going on in There? : How the Brain and Mind Develop in the First Five Years of Life by Lise Eliot Written by a neurobiologist and mother. Doesn't address all of those questions specifically however is a facinating read and is well referenced". |

To medicate or not to medicate? Thanks! Edited. Our family doctor looked at him for 5 mins and said he was not ADHD, but referred us to a child psychiatrist because we insisted. After testing and diagnosis, the C.Psych encouraged medication in order to prevent social maladjustment, which isn't happening. Now, I'm starting to be concerned about academic progress, but I don't want to give my child drugs. The teachers and the doctors might say there is no stigma associated with this, but there is. I'm looking for non-medical opinions on how other people decided. |

How can I teach my child not to be greedy? I would suggest that you rephrase your question to something like "how do I teach my child not to be greedy". It seems like your concern is commercialism. |

Are Ballet or Swimming lessons more suitable for our girl? I make my children finish the year of whatever they have started or reach the SMART goal they have set for themselves whichever makes sense. It's a challenge knowing how long to make them persevere since if they love something, they will stick with it through that growing period when it's difficult. No, I would not let her change her mind mid year. |

How young is too young to take a child overseas? Sometimes you don't have to buy a seat if there is one vacant. Ask. If you have the car seat with you, but can't use it because there are no vacancies, the seat gets "sky checked". It is better to be prepared than not. |
