I suggest you rephrase the question to say "spanking". "Striking" a child implies anger and lack of thought, which in my opinion is absolutely wrong.

It's very important to stop this kind of behaviour ASAP. We were not effective early and ended up resorting to cold showers for the offender, which worked (thank goodness). Starting out with Javid's method would have been smart.
