comment Does anyone recognize where the phrase “Dinosaur on the button” comes from?
@woliveirajr nope. This lasted about 6 months or so in heavy usage... then trailed off steadily for maybe another 2 months. Then just stopped. Still no clue where it came from, but this question is now the #1 google hit for it. :)

comment How do you stop a child from talking back without discouraging them from asserting themselves?
If I could give this answer another 5 upvotes I would. In retrospect I think the faux no pattern was a huge part of this.

Sorry Joe, but this just isn't the kind of question StackExchange sites are intended for... this isn't a question that you can say has a definitive answer.

comment Why must a toddler car seat be fully reclined when installed rear-facing?
aside from the police and fire departments, many car dealerships have someone on staff that's certified in car seat installation, certainly worth checking with the local ones if the police/fire departments don't pan out.

comment How do I identify if the water bottle is of a safe material for my children?
What you heard is wrong. There are many rigid plastics which will not discolor or soften when heated which do still contain BPA.

comment How can I get my toddler to sleep later in the mornings?
amazon.com/American-Innovative-Teach-Talking-Nightlight/dp/… can be set to change colors at a given hour, then they just need to learn "when the clock turns green you can come find us".

@DA01, this is more about the game than the kids I think.

comment How do you potty train for overnight?
@Jeff, one example from amazon that I know worked for a co-worker's daughter: amazon.com/PottyMD-W103-Bedwetting-Alarm-Wet-Stop3/dp/… A google for "bed wetting alarm" yields lots and lots of hits.

comment How do you convince your son to poop in the toilet?
haha, nope. I just said I was 4 or 5 feet away... not that the tub was. Sitting on that toilet an adult could easily kick the end of the tub. A standard tub is 5' long (as is ours), if the toilet is across from one end of it and you're sitting on the edge of the other end of it... then you're about 4-5 feet away.

The legality questions are going to be too locale specific to really be on topic here I suspect.

logging might very well be your first hint that something is up... assuming you have a decent tool for filtering that log.

comment What are some filling after-dinner snacks for a 1 year old?
To make @Aarthi's second example a little more concrete: oatmeal. It's quick and simple, filling, healthy, and babies seem to love it.

comment Is there an alternative to Boy/Girl Scouts in the US?
@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun the find page is geo aware, when I bring it up they find dozens of locations in my state. Not sure why they picked the UK for you, that might be the closest since it is a mainly US program.

comment Where is the line on helping with homework?
+1 for not writing on their paper, that makes a pretty clear line. I used to use a small lap sized white board to work out problems on. Often due to it's small size (relative to the big markers for it) we would erase the first part of it to make room to finish the problems.

comment Where is the line on helping with homework?
When I was tutoring math one of the key things I did was to not use the problems in the book to demonstrate the concepts. Pretty much the same as your dad... show them the concepts, not how to do the problems in the homework.

comment How should a toddler be encouraged to walk (if at all)?
I encourage tipping the laundry basket upside down if the top edge is smooth, as this tends to be more stable (wider at the top that's now on the bottom) and less likely for a little one to push down on the edge just right to flip the basket up on end and fall into it. (been there... the bump on his forehead only lasted a day.)
