comment Do you use number of weeks or day of the month to determine an infant's birthday?
did you mean " Once the child is 8 weeks old, switch to counting months." ?

comment How long is breastfeeding effective and worthwhile?
Probably because it doesn't actually answer the question that was asked. (though it kinda sorta answered the old title.)

comment Are there any allergic-friendly alternatives for peanut butter & jelly?
Ah, I missed the age range, I suppose it makes more sense then.

Wow, are they really telling you not to send peanuts because one other kid in the class has nut allergies? I'm kinda shocked.

comment We're looking to get pregnant - what can we do to optimize our chances?
There's one item on Technique that is missing here. Both partners need to orgasm, and he needs to be first. The muscle contractions of the woman's orgasm have been shown (literally, with fiber optic cameras inside the vagina) to help get more semen into the fallopian tubes to be exposed to the egg by way of more of it being picked up by the cervix and brought into the uterus.

Very good thought, and one we considered as well but I forgot to mention. I'll update.

Good thought, I'll ask his speech teacher (he already has one). And yeah, the gum idea is horrifying. We've tried a couple of alternatives he was allowed to chew on... they weren't preferable apparently.

comment What are some ways to teach a child how to spit (after brushing their teeth)?
I've been working on this very issue with my son lately... the problem doesn't seem to be knowing how to spit the toothpaste out when he's done, so much as not swallowing it constantly during the process so that there is something left to spit out.

comment Is starting a small fire a good way to the explain dangers of flammability?
+1 the BEST "don't play with matches" education I ever got in school was when we went on a field trip, ostensibly to a nearby zoo to see the baby owls, but it just happened the bus route went through a state forest that had been gutted by fire just a couple weeks prior. The bus driver slowed down so everyone could get a good look/smell, and one of the teachers gave a fire-and-brimstones lecture from the aisle. At the zoo, after seeing the owls, we also "got" to see the deer and bears that had been hurt by the fire.
