I have been a tester, manager, automator, and release angineer for over 15 years. Working in Windows, *nix and distributed environments I've come in as the first part of QA and built groups or joined existing groups. I like process and am an evangelist for process improvement. I also dabble in tool smithing, while I am not a great coder I stick with it and have built up a nice array of tools over the years in Perl, Ruby and PowerShell. I automate when I can now, as that is my prime passion, and I wear all kinds of hats doing whatever is needed but always handling code from test to production.

I have many interests in cooking, reading, home improvement, MakerSpaces and many more. You'll find me on many SX's here.

I currently work for NaviNet as a Software Engineer in Test II

comment How do you stop a child from using bad language and profanity?
Personally I still worry about "soap blindness" but that's me. i never thought of the soap punishment as worthy, since most soaps today have stuff in there I can't pronounce. Nice answer though - +1

comment Where can we find ideas for activities for our toddler?
Yes, my point on the Zhu Zhu Pet's, they get annoying when they keep running around for minutes. Good point though!

comment How do you moderate a teenager's obsessive or excessive behavior?
Agreed, you have to consider the activity and what it is you are trying to promote. Sometimes the younger the child the more it will affect them, positively, as they get older. Only you know when something is being abused and how, just tell your children you set strict guidelines and that is it.

comment How do we teach a pre-schooler about money and shopping?
I'd agree with this but unless kids understand that the allowance does not go as far as they'd like, such as buying that toy or game they want, it's just money that they get. They have to understand that things cost money as well, that is the harder lesson to teach.

comment Is starting a small fire a good way to the explain dangers of flammability?
Yeah, same here but unfortunately our kitchen is limited in space and we have some really good childproof locks installed. Plus the kitchen is gated so we have multiple layers of security.

comment What should I teach my teenager about condoms?
Good point on pockets, I hadn't thought about carrying them with you...too used to having them at home I guess.

+1 Great point about "it's obvious he doesn't care about you, only about getting laid"...so many times that is glossed over.

comment When should my child transition from tricycle to a bicycle?
I'm looking at doing this with my next one by taking off the pedals from my older one's bike. I don't need to buy another bike just for one, if I knew about these early on I'd have bought one long ago they look really effective.

comment What are the (dis)advantages of putting a child in a nursery or pre-school even when one parent is at home?
It's one point madge and off the topic of the question, I just found it less than helpful for the answer or a comment as to how a vast majority of children are there. Same as the kid warehousing, I'm sure they exist but I saw many day cares that were not like that. I think you are mostly overgeneralizing.

comment What are the pros and cons of a chicken-pox party vs immunization?
I was vaccinated as a kid but got it later on, through school, never did go to a chicken-pox party and only heard about them later. It was an inconvenience but not much more, although it was a very itchy week...I'd say see what happens and don't knowingly expose your kids to something they might get by chance on their own. Some diseases can be avoided and I take that view in my own life.

Madge usually I respect your opinions, but this one seems to be more from a bad experience you had, its one answer of yours I disagree with. Few of your points I find self-evident but then everyone has bad experiences. I have never seen ay cares funded only from welfare programs, although I don't run in those circles I don't think they are representative.
