I am a parent of two boys who are 5 years apart, they get along well and play as well as kids can with that age gap. They are half-Chinese and are growing up learning English and Chinese, reading, writing and speaking for both languages. What I want to get out of this site are more ideas on raising my boys, giving them more opportunities for learning and growth as well as more ideas on how to educate them and get them to try new things.

How do you convince your son to poop in the toilet? This would not work in my house, my wife is very anti-reading in the bathroom. I am not sure if it's an Asian or Taiwan or family thing but she yells at me if I bring something to read in there. Even pointing out in the bookstore the numerous bathroom readers hasn't worked. |

How do I get an easily distracted 5 year old to eat more? Hungry kids eat more and eat their meal, at least in my experience, you can give better and more rounded nutrition in a meal than in a snack. |

How do I get an easily distracted 5 year old to eat more? Yes, no more meal and snack or not depends on time and activity. Generally he gets nothing more until the next meal, although we do give him drinks (like Yogurt Smoothies or Sidekicks) so he doesn't miss nutrition. The goal is to get him to recognize what mealtime is and is not. |

How can we improve a trilingual toddler's basic language development? My own experience says no, all the multilingual kids I have seen speak later than single language kids I know. |

How Should I React to an Indecisive Toddler? Very true, I have yet to see a decisive toddler, I worry more about behavior overall rather than moods and choices I know he will grow out of. |

What's the best way to extract baby snot? My youngest didn't mind it at first, since he knew it made him feel better and was quiet when we used it. Now he is in a cranky phase and anything you get near to use it you can't hold him still. |

How do I teach my child to express his frustration? True, but I've seen that happen regardless. Sometimes just for fun in playing on the sofa |

How do I teach my child to express his frustration? +1, Agreed. When kids are younger and do this they really can't get significant force to do harm, my 1.5 year old still does it on occasion but can't really hurt himself yet. |

How should a parent react when their child comes out of the closet to them? Well if you love your child I would think you'd support them, although I understand people's personal belief's don't always support this choice. |

How can we make parents more attractive than TV, video games, etc.? I think your ideas list really covers it, sure parents can be attractive to kids but they have to want to be. Unless they make the effort there is no natural gravitation. |

What toys tend to be a child's favorite, and why? Very true, every new toy gets played with a lot for the first few days then it slacks off. Good points! |
