comment How to cope with a crying infant in the car during short trips?
This would have been my suggestion, even if your voice is not soothing (I know mine isn't to my kids) at least it keeps you focused on something else. Or turn on the radio and sing, that often helps me focus on driving but definitely something you could do to keep your mind focused and cover the crying.

comment Is there an alternative to Boy/Girl Scouts in the US?
Recently I discovered that our town has 2 Boy Scout Troops, even though we are small, one of which does follow the traditional path, with a lot of religious overtones. However, we also have one that follows the path and is rather lackluster in boosting anything religious, this may not be talked about but still provide the Scouting experience you prefer without the agenda. May need to ask around. Our Cub Scout pack is pretty lackluster on the religious aspect, and very inclusive, which works for me where I am agnostic and my son is a Buddhist.

comment How can I address toddler's fear of water over her face?
I did the same as you suggested, just letting the kids have their own time in the bath, I just supervised and made sure they were fine. I'd wash their hair last, cause you know they mess it up anyway, then get water to pour over them using the "close your eyes and mouth" line you suggest. It got easier over time, but nothing I did would break the habit, just get used to phases your child has to work out of on their own time frame, not yours.

comment How should I handle an 8 year old lawyering and quibbling?
Sorry to say this but that is AWESOME! Honestly, that is a child with a very bright mind. Sad part is you have to put up with the lawyering, but if you get him to be a lawyer someday he might turn out to be a natural.

comment How to go about regaining the trust of my child?
Thinking about this the only problem I see with this is that if the mother is actively trying to remove the father then mail may be intercepted as well as emails. Depends on how active the mother is in this, so it could just end up with another situation where the daughter needs to choose whom to believe.
