comment How can I stop my toddler from having nightmares about robots?
Agreed on not removing all traces of robots, and for an additional reason. If you protect him from robots by removing them, you might also be validating his fears; The fears were important enough for a parent to take action against them. It isn't an actual threat, so perhaps the child can help customize his own room and toy selection.

comment What are the psychological impacts of a split-religion household?
Doug, the percentage of youth earth proponents, even among Christians, is plummeting. Even standard scriptural "proof" is tenuous and requires various assumptions. You are confusing dogma with belief.

comment What are the psychological impacts of a split-religion household?
@Doug, you could say the same the other way around, or about any other belief, behavior, or outlook modeled by the parents. If one parent believes something, it WILL affect the child's upbringing even if closeted. The family and child may as well be given a chance to process it in a sincere fashion. I would say that the decision was made already with the marriage and conception.

comment How do I explain regional differences in language?
For the mom example, mom and mum are different words with different pronunciations, although with the same meaning and IIRC a parallel or closely branched etymology. You could have both in a sentence and they would both be spelled correctly. Color and colour are better examples, and ironically enough the latter 'ou' spelling is taken from Old French, while the previous matches both a more modern Anglicization and the original latin.

comment How do I explain regional differences in language?
Spelling was very unstandardized at one point and phonetic encodings differed considerably. English seemed to hit the perfect storm for un-standardization as compared to most other european languages. Very interesting cultural study.

comment How can I teach my son to ride a bike?
Training wheels really do prevent learning how to ride, and this method does work well.

comment Why does a pacifier trigger my baby's gag reflex?
Suggesting professional advice and providing an alternative that will prevent gagging (not using a pacifier) are each reasonable answers to the question.

Amazon prime if you'll use it a lot. One shipping charge per year.

comment At what age do kids start sleeping through the night?
I'd say it is hugely dependent on the child AND on the home environment. It is simple to sabotage a child's sleeping habits, for example, by teaching non-infants to require your presence to fall asleep.

comment Why do my children cry in my wife's arms but are quiet with me?
When I was a small child I would often try to listen my dad after I was put to bed. My guess: hearing him made me feel protected.

Perhaps you two act differently. For example, maybe you lay back and act chill and do the minimum possible and she gets stressed and tries to make everything right, setting them off.

When they grow up they will decide for themselves in the end, just like in every household ever.

Do what is best for the child regardless of your feelings. Right on.
