comment How do we address other adults telling my son to ask us to bring him to their house?
@Erica this is just for family visits. We do have a standing offer for them to babysit, and we take them up on it sometimes, but in these cases she's specifically asking us to drive over and hang out for an hour or so.

comment How do I solve my brother's fear of a creepy video game character?
@PaulJohnson Fair enough. I was making that statement primarily to head off any discussion of this being off-topic. Sorry if I mis-guessed your intent.

"Acting as a parent" is a pretty nebulous term. Regardless of the fact that we're talking about siblings, any advice given here would likely be just as applicable to parents, should they ask about similar situations.

comment What are some better ways to teach empathy when taking kids to the zoo?
Zoos vary considerably in quality. If the zoos near you have animals showing clear signs of poor treatment, don't take your kids there. Find more conservation/education oriented zoos, even if they're less convenient.

comment Does being the oldest in a day care class harm a child's social development?
That would be quite an insightful, albeit excessively wordy (you even used a word I had to look up, although it was largely the fact that you misused it that caused me to miss the meaning) commentary... if this were a question about middle-age adults, or even pre-teen children. However, since the topic is toddlers, as the true focus of my answer indicates, there is very little meaning to asking what the child's "real age" is (for social intelligence, yadda-yadda) at that age.

@KaiQing Thanks. I added an upvote, and it looks like at least one person's downvote was retracted :)

I don't think this answer merits so many downvotes, but I agree that "hypochondriac" seems pretty clearly an incorrect assessment, and that is keeping me from upvoting, even to offset what I feel are excessive downvotes. I wish you would reconsider some minor edits. You've got some good citations and insight, and it would be a shame to have this answer buried or auto-deleted.
