I'm afraid this seems too broad. There is no way to know why the father acts this way; all we can do is speculate, and the possibilities range from wanting to be perceived as powerful/wealthy/etc., as MJ6 suggested, to believing that he is trying to avoid spoiling his own kids. I'm going to close this, as we can't diagnose a condition (if one that would describe this were to exist), and we just don't have enough information.
