I have one son, who is 4, and has a slight form of Autism. We like to go out for walks and go to playgrounds together.

When is physical punishment appropriate? Spanking is not violence... All of the research I read on the subject lumped parents who spank in with the same group as those who beat or abuse their children so the results were skewed from the beginning. Beating and abusing a child is completely wrong, but spanking (not as the only form of discipline) is effective and does not harm the child. |

When is physical punishment appropriate? I was spanked, I am not aggressive and disobedient, I respect others. Spanking taught me there was a consequence for my actions. When I was younger I avoided things because I did not want to be punished, as I grew older and learned right from wrong I did not do wrong things because I wanted to do what was right. My son is spanked when he needs it, he is not aggressive or disobedient. |

When is physical punishment appropriate? @Lennart so then the whole argument is a null issue then... Kids learn respect from discipline and having consistant rules they have to follow and consistant punishments for those rules, spanking or not doesn't change the outccome as long as discipline is maintained. Bang goes the whole argument.... |

When is physical punishment appropriate? @Lennart I have a lot of respect for adults, and especially for authority figures even when I highly disagree with them, and my parents believed in spanking. It taught me that there is a punishment (discipline) for doing something wrong... The more severe the action the more severe the discipline, from being told no, to being grounded, to being spanked. |

How do you address sibling rivalry? Just speaking from experience (I have 4 siblings) making kids hug after they fight if they have an ongoing rivalry doesn't really help at all. But your other advice I would agree with. :) |

How should a stepfather respond to “You are not my Father!”? I fully agree with that. My biological father receently contacted me. He isn't my dad, I treat him just like I would treat anybody else. The person who raised me is my dad. |
