How to improve my 9yo child's short term memory There is no research support for the assertion that any of these activities will generally improve short term memory, a.k.a. working memory. Think of working memory as akin to RAM in a computer. Instead, what one may develop within a specific domain is chunking ability or other strategies that can aid recall; this is not the same as working memory. |

Mathematics concepts for older children and teens No, that's not most of the problem. |

What would be a effective way to explain pornography? I don't think things are quite at the stage that the OP needs to warn his child about the perils of the adult entertainment industry, so the analogy seems unhelpful. |

What would be a effective way to explain pornography? Downvoted for several reasons, including but not limited to your characterization of sexual mores not in line with your particular idea of "traditional" sexual morality as "loose"-- a somewhat pejorative term in this context-- and suggesting that anyone who is more sexually "loose" than you suffers from cognitive dissonance when considering whether to expose children to pornography. |

As an atheist, how should I explain theism to my children? -1 Atheism is not a religion. I'm startled that anyone would claim that it is. Atheists may hold spiritual beliefs, but that does not change the analysis. |

How to feed a 3 year old? Maybe you should add some detail to the question. Are you trying to say that feeding your daughter is difficult, and if so, in what ways? In general I'd avoid coddling any child to get her to eat. In almost all cases, when a child is truly hungry, she will eat, and will be better off for doing so naturally and not requiring songs or other enticements. |

teenage child with severe daily temper tantrums and whining Naomi Aldort is a controversial figure both for the nature of her advice, which I might sum up as "the parent is always wrong and the child always makes the right choice", as well as at one point being claimed to have presented false credentials as a Ph.D.-holding psychologist, based on getting a document from an online degree mill (since this was found out she has apparently presented herself more as a parenting-coach/life-coachy sort instead): mdcsurvivors.blogspot.com/2011/07/… |
