comment 3yr old refuses to sleep without me
@Erica, good idea, I was on my phone with minimum brightness. I felt the nightlight would drown out the light but maybe it was making her anxious even though she wasn't moving so I will try a book.

comment 3yr old refuses to sleep without me
So I did start this process kinda last night. Currently we lay down together in our bed. Last night I laid her down in her bed, and I did not lay down with her. Instead I sat down near the door while she was laying down. She did not like it much... but she did eventually lay down. I was there for an hour and she didn't go to sleep. Though I consider it a win that i went so long without having to lay down with her. I will try and repeat this every night and work into the leaving the room part. I'll keep you updated. In the end, she ended up in our bed, but it was a small step forward.

I can handle the crying (sorta) but she does blood curdling screams and comes out of the room constantly :/

comment 3yr old refuses to sleep without me
@Ida, good question. She just started doing it this past week. I have to lay back down so she can go back to sleep. I have been lucky for the past 2 nights but she did it 4 days in a row last week.

I like this answer, I will give it a try and see if we have any luck. I will probably let this stay open for a week and mark the best answer to see if anyone has other good feedback.

comment Son 22 asks me how to deal with a friend with benefits, so that she does not get hurt
Tell him to check out David D'Angelo he will have plenty of great valuable advise. Careful though his stuff works well, landed my friend with benefits into being my wife with children of 8yrs, lmao.

comment 5 yr old son behaving sexually
I have 2 boys, and they loved running around naked, they are 10 and 11 and I still have to fight with them half the time to put some cloths on. They displayed sexual behavior when they were around 5 yrs old but it has for the most part subsided. I would say most of what you have described is normal but the mounting part would raise concern for me. I would recommend letting his pediatrician know and see what they recommend. It could just be curiosity, but how would he know hes supposed to do what he was trying to do? I agree with filing a report if abuse is discovered.

comment Should I stop my mother in law visiting when she doesn't respect me as the father figure?
Our answer was to send ours away. Though this is more on my wife and her parents. They have caused us great hardship by undermining us and making us walk on egg shells with disipline. September 1st they are moving 400 miles away... counting the days..

comment How can I safely keep a pacifier in an infant's mouth?
Duct Tape... ok really, we just bought the wipes meant for cleaning it. We had the leash for them that attached to the cloths but she would just take it off :/

comment How can I help my son develop a social life? How can I prevent him becoming socially isolated?
My father used to come down on me really hard when I was younger because of the computer. He refused to see any little applications I made and always told me I was rotting my brain away. It took 10+ years but he finally sees the fruits of my labor and couldn't be more proud. I feel the media over exaggerates the effects of the "all mighty screens" there is a lot to learn and experience that can help you grow in all areas of life. Good luck, software development has a bright future with great income and many non-standard perks over normal jobs :)

comment How can I deal with my unreasonable 8 year old with ADHD?
Our family is also struggling with a child that has severe ADHD. We have jumped medication to medication, we have dealt with the ticks they have created including him eating his nails gone. He has become a chronic liar which he did not pickup from us. I love him, but he makes life so difficult for our whole family. We have done therapy, which seems to make him happy though not sure how much it has helped. Stay away from food with red and yellow dyes in them. Good luck, and you are not alone.

comment Restarting baby-led weaning after an actual choking
I feel for you, our baby started nearly choking on watermelon and I was traumatized for a while myself. Out baby also shoved everything as much as she can in her mouth. We actually stuck with level 3 baby food which has minor chunks and stay away with anything that has solid meat chunks as she is 18mo and still has a hard time eating it even with teeth. I would stick to feeding them myself with a spoon unless it was the little snacks that disolve easy.

comment I've taken all of my 13 year old daughter's possessions, and she's still disrespectful
I am not looking forward to these days with the daughter :( my sons are 9 and 11 and they are already starting to get crazy and like you.. I have taken everything away in attempts to not whoop them but it seems the time is coming.. good luck

comment 16mo still not walking, I think it's my fault?
Yeah, I feel I am the enabler :/ I am ALWAYS there to catch her when she falls. If they were bottom falls I don't mind but she has a habit of throwing her self backwards(my fault as well) and I don't want her getting brain damage from smashing her head. My sisters baby bumped her head and got brain swelling and has a serious condition now so I feel a little paranoid. But I agree with what you are saying, I really wish I had carpet instead of hard floors I would let her fall all day long.

comment 11mo baby is shaking arms and legs when excited
Thank you, seizures were kinda on my mind though I thought maybe it was really minor versions. Thanks for the reassurance all is well, it definitely isn't as uncontrollable as a seizure.

comment 11mo baby is shaking arms and legs when excited
Comforting.. yeah i probably would be freaking out if she hit 16mo and was still doing it. Thank you for the heads up, its quite adorable I just didn't want it to be something bad while I'm melting over her lol.

comment What is a reasonable amount of time to wait before family visits your new baby?
We let them visit while the baby was still in the NICU. But we were picky on who could hold her. Lots of hand sanitizer! By many bottles and have them always around for guests.
