comment When is a banana ripe enough to not cause constipation?
@DVK, I think whomever wrote that post on skeptics is familiar with constipation. Whew.

comment My child is constantly hungry. How do I keep her feeling fuller?
@balancedmama, just a suggestion but you could ask a question on the cooking stack about good ways to add healthy fats. I'll answer there too ;)

@ChristineGordon, thanks for that, I appreciate the compliment!

comment My 8 year old son won't fall asleep
I try to avoid it myself when possible, it's too often a way to express anger than show the right way to go, but sometimes unavoidable.

comment My 8 year old son won't fall asleep
I agree with @ChristineGordon, this isn't defiance. He's not screaming and being disruptive, he just isn't tired or something is keeping him awake.

comment My 8 year old son won't fall asleep
@ChristineGordon, I didn't phrase it the best so I can see why you are confused. I've edited to add that punishment (or any attention really) at the time is the problem. Any attention whether positive or negative when he's awake at night is positive reinforcement of the behavior.

comment How to avoid association of child's room with time-outs?
Well if the goal is to get him to change his behavior and it works then great.

comment What are some great techniques for encouraging a reluctant reader?
Good point @ChristineGordon, I did mean a broader range of learning disabilities, and I've edited accordingly

comment Is it ok to be on diet while pregnant?
+1 for a great comment @balancedmama, you're right that people often mistake thirst for hunger, often drinking a tall glass of water will get rid of hunger pangs. Drinking lots of water helps reduce constipation, which is also a problem for many women in pregnancy.

comment How can I motivate my child who doesn't care about rewards?
We need even more of that! There are so many kids who need that sort of help.

As a parent I've got a 3 year old and a 9 month old. I spent a couple years as a not very good camp councilor and learned a lot from the experience! Professionally I'm in IT. I take it you're a teacher from your post. Well done, we need more of you!

comment Can you detect peanut allergies in babies from kissing on the cheek?
I really don't think this is a wise idea. Peanut allergies are potentially life threatening, if you suspect your child is allergic then take him to a specialist. DO NOT follow this advice!

That is so easy to do, unfortunately it could lead you to humor that behavior too much

comment My baby is having cough and making wheezing sound
A standard thermometer takes minutes to read, and needs to be kept someplace body temperature like under the tongue or clamped in the underarm. Try that with a screaming, squirming baby! You don't have to have an in-ear one, but at least get a digital one, they are so much easier.

An in-ear thermometer is a digital thermometer that you stick in the child's ear. You press a button, and it beeps in a couple of seconds with the temperature. So much easier than a standard thermometer!

I completely understand that you are concerned, I would be too. The point of my post is to point out that your expectations may be more the issue rather than her abilities.

@BrianWhite, sure, she may be the one who requested it, it also may be she's not ready yet.

@Ana, completely agree. With no clear evidence it's more of a fun game than anything.

comment 7 month old will no longer play on her stomach
She'll gain plenty of arm strength just by playing with toys and doing the usual baby stuff.

@RoryAlsop, to me a child falling off a bed onto a hard floor counts as a risk. OK, it's only a couple of feet but a child can break something from that high. At the very least put down some cushions if you want them to learn a lesson out of it.
