comment How do you address hoarding behavior in a primary-schooler?
My daughter is highly sociable and intellectually mature, so I doubt Asperger. I have not seen any other signs of OCD but I have little experience with this so I could be missing something. She has had a lot of changes in the past three years - we had a second child (depriving her of attention), we spend two years renovating our house (changing everything she loved plus taking up all of our free time). Things have been settling down a bit and we've been able to give her more attention but she still holds onto stuff we'd consider rubbish.

comment How to prevent children from sucking their thumb?
When our daughter started sucking her thumb (a lot younger that 4), we gave her a dummy. Our rationale was that we can take the dummy away later, but we can't cut off her thumbs. When she turned 2, we removed the dummy from her (slowly). She whinged but eventually dropped the habit but did not go back to sucking her thumb.

comment What methods are effective for teaching vocabulary to young children?
My son, how just turned 3, has benefited from me learning a lot more Turkish in the 6 years since my daughter was born. Even though he goes to childcare where they speak English, still speaks primarily Turkish to us and thinks in Turkish.
