I am a former classroom teacher that has had experience in the preschool, elementary and highschool setting but mostly taught in middle school in the United States. My favorite teaching years were the three I spent teaching science in a specialized setting for twice-exceptional kids in Middle School Science and Highschool biology. I am now a home educator for my 6-year-old daughter and nanny part time. I have a book I am working on publishing and a children's book and have a blog about educating kids pinchxeverything.blogspot.com.

Actually, you aren't teaching the child the socket = pain, you are teaching the child that upsetting parent = pain. I agree with Dave, and Beofett here and so does the law in many countries.

Welcome to the community Kivy! Did you see this question? parenting.stackexchange.com/q/6606/2876. It seems to me it duplicates your intent here. You might also scroll through the "discipline" tag to help you find some alternative means of making the point to your daughter. Hope this helps.

+1 for "Usually people don't treat you as a serious person until you do not have some background that proves your decisions to be correct. With parents it's harder because they are used to you being a child". Absolutely.
