comment Adopt before giving birth, or give birth before adopting?
@Chrys The limit to one kid per family is not true in the US (unless specific to an individual state). In the states I know about, the issue is not "fairness" it is about safety and privacy. The states want each kid to have a room to him/herself which can limit things to one child/family. Exceptions to this are made for biological siblings being able to share a room. I know of a number of families that had the means and space to adopt more than one at different times and now have huge families with a rainbow of skin colors, variety of features AND all the typical family diversity.

are you assuming the child will naturally spit because it is salty water? What if the child swallows it?

comment How to help a child not copy her older sibling's behavior
Maybe over-time she'd try a different tact? Especially if, on the days she does answer correctly you made a really big deal out of it! "Wow, you must have really been paying attention! What a smart and good decision! Learning feels so good to me. Does it to you? I'm so proud of your choices. . . "

comment Why are parents so concerned about not letting the babies sleep with them?
If you'd like to discuss this further we should probably take the matter to chat as comments are not conducive to longer discussion such as this is becoming.

Also, perhaps, "overlay" was done by fathers or other guardians or something. I didn't say it never happens, just that it has proven to not be an issue with sober mothers and that with fathers it seems to be less of a concern than once thought.

Thanks @Dariusz - I don't know the details, just what I read in couple of studies done sometime in the last 10-15 years, but longer ago than seven years. One study just went back through the archives looking for actual cases of - what I guess was referred to as "overlay" where this was the actual cause of death and the other studied "sober" mothers and found they would not roll onto something sleeping in the bed with them. Perhaps the incidents reported, or the reason for the term was mistaken or perhaps those mothers were not sober at the time.
