I am a former classroom teacher that has had experience in the preschool, elementary and highschool settings but mostly taught in middle school in the United States. My favorite teaching years were the three I spent teaching science in a specialized setting for twice-exceptional kids in Middle School Science and Highschool biology. I am now a home educator for my 7-year-old daughter and nanny part time. I have a book I am working on publishing and a children's book.

Just as an FYI, it has actually been studied, and the chances of a sober parent doing this to a child are pretty slim - a mother, zero (the rolling over on top of part). Its really mostly just a myth that this happens.

Hello and Welcome Ajay. Here at SE we really try to be sure information offered is accurate. Why are hiccups considered good for the baby? Is it a fun superstition and really you are say, "don't worry" or is there researched data that substantiates the idea?

Tried to make the question slightly more general while also respecting the specificity the OP wished for when asking.

@metacore Right, I understand that. However, if you assume imaginary friends are a defense mechanism always that implies children who have one are having to "cope±" with something - which is what used to be believed but is contrary to the research about it in the last decade.
