I am a former classroom teacher that has had experience in the preschool, elementary and highschool settings but mostly taught in middle school in the United States. My favorite teaching years were the three I spent teaching science in a specialized setting for twice-exceptional kids in Middle School Science and Highschool biology. I am now a home educator for my 7-year-old daughter and nanny part time. I have a book I am working on publishing and a children's book.

comment At what age should a child's self-involvement begin to decrease?
I know some adults that are still completely self-absorbed.

@Chrys - it's true, but I find it usually works well to say to such a child, can you find a way to think about what you want and what so and so wants? Also, I've helped my own child learn how to do that with others too - of course it doesn't always work, but the reality for those kids, is other kids won't enjoy hanging out with them - when my daughter doesn't want to continue to have some one over (because of a child sticking stubbornly to such an attitude) I don't force it.
