comment Boy Crazy at Seven
So happy I have a boy, things like this would keep my up worrying for weeks at a time. I think my solution would be to move to Antarctica. :)

comment Why did my pre-schooler suddenly develop an odd accent?
My son, who is also 3, does this on a regular basis. It took us awhile to realize he was imitating characters from TV shows and friends. He really likes to talk like Curious George and like the Rescuebots. He has gone a couple of entire days where he talks with the accent of one of these characters. Sometimes it gets much more flamboyant when he is sleepy, and much louder.

comment How to eat out with kids?
Wow, as an introvert I can tell you that going out with our 3 year old can be a real struggle for me. I am very distracted by everything else going on in the restaurant that keeping focused on him is hard. I am very quick to leave a restaurant or to give him a time-out when he misbehaves and I had never thought about my introversion, how distracted I am, having an affect on my behavior in that situation. When it is just the 2 of us in a quiet restaurant we do ok, but in a crowded restaurant I have a harder time giving him the attention he needs and there is more going on that gets him excited.

comment Minimize time to pack child's things
Haha, oh yes, the extra change of clothes. We now keep and extra extra pair of clothes in each of our cars and have had to use them a couple of times.

comment Treating diaper rash for a teething toddler
We had a similar experience and used a "foot cream" suggested by our doctor along with letting him not wear a diaper for as long as possible. I also think letting him take longer baths helped.

comment How do we deal with my toddler son's “angry behavior”?
My son is also 3 and we have similar problems on occasion. I hope someone has a better approach, but I think you are doing it right. I hope it is just a phase that he will quickly outgrow as I struggle with being very consistent with the time-outs and calmly explaining to him that his behavior is wrong. The only solution we have found that works regularly is to give him options, ask him to make a choice between two things he likes. Usually these things are unrelated to what caused him to be angry, but it distracts him enough that he forgets he is angry (or at least stops throwing and hitting).

+1 for being "open about this", it is only through honest communication that you will both have a happy and healthy relationship.

comment 3 year old tantrums in public
I recently gave my son his first public time-out. He wanted to climb on a train, a real train not something for kids. Trying to distract him we went to a playground. He tried repeatedly tried to run back to the train and when I stopped him he kicked and screamed. So I sat him down in a corner of the playground and explained to him that he was in time-out and was going to stay there until he calmed down. I felt like everyone there was glaring at me and thinking the worst of me. It was the right thing to do, he calmed down and we went on our way. You did the right thing.

comment How do you address a child who cries and wants to play with everything?
Our 2.5yr old is in a LeapFrog chair with a belt strap and I do not see us not using it anytime soon. He does not like being put in the chair, but once there he is ok with it.

comment Toddler Plays in Bed and Won't go to Sleep
I like both GdD and Valkyrie's answers. In contrast my son screams, yells, and cries for 5 minutes to an hour before falling asleep EVERY night, and for us that is normal. If we go into his room it just delays the crying and keeps him up later.

comment How can I protect my ears when the baby cries?
My recommendation would also be ear muffs, they are what I used. I had to keep a pair in the nursery and wear them when changing diapers. Electronic ones cost around $60, but mine are a simple pair that cost about $20.00. I do recommend buying them from a store where you can try them on though. You may need to wear them for extended periods of time and will want to make sure they are comfortable.

comment What is a reasonable amount of time to wait before family visits your new baby?
Two weeks into it and my wife and I were grateful for ANYONE coming over to the house and sit with the baby while we took a nap and had a decent meal together. It was great and I am very thankful for those that visited with us.
