Nope, no TV, computer, etc. Sometimes (rarely) we'll play music on the computer within a half-hour of bedtime.

comment Why do infants flail their arms?
Sure, I understand that they want to explore the object. But why do pretty much all babies (from what I've seen) perform this exact same movement? They could just as easily wave their arms left-and-right instead of up-and-down.

comment How structured does a child's life need to be?
Yeah, one of my internal reasons for not worrying too much about stresses incurred when visiting family is that it adds a certain variety to their lives, which is generally a good thing so long as it's not (too) harmful.

comment The noise of his children playing makes a parent tired and glad to leave for work
Well, crying isn't really a problem with us - our kids are really well behaved (so far). The fatigue mostly comes from 2 working parents, and having our precious time filled up with the necessities (food, bathing, etc). With the 3yo, the fatigue comes from having to work through her resistance at every little step (time to get dressed, time to brush your teeth, etc - and every time, she'll find an excuse). I know that she's really saying "I need you." I wish I could give her the quality time that she's asking for.

Oh thank goodness, I think our sanity depends on believing that once the younger one gets a little older, life will become less tiring...

That's awesome. I try to do the same with my 3-year-old, but for now I run out of patience too quickly.

comment How to get children to participate in housework without using reward/punishment
1, I didn't say the reward had to be financial, just that some sources suggested it. 2, kind of goes with what I was saying - get them to understand why the chore needs to be done. Am I right in understanding that the main thrust of your answer is to try doing the chores together?
