Once upon a time I worked in a factory to pay for my CS degree. I was promoted several times into engineering and then into engineering management. To switch back to my goal of a computer programming became expensive - upper end engineering salary vs mid level programmer. So I wrote code to automate engineering processes ("Expert System" if you will). Then one day I made an executive decision and made the career change and have been happier but poorer since.

Should I supplement children's education at home? I'm sorry, but it sounds like you're applying too much pressure. At an early age, it's most important to learn how to interact with others. I've known academically advanced your children who became very uninterested in academics later and life. Similarly I've met brilliant people who were slackers in school. Mostly importantly let your child be your child, not the child you want them to be. |

Toddler has a strong preference for one parent Since I don't have a girl (I have 3 sons) I will not make this an answer, just a comment. My sons have always gone to their mothers for comfort. When they want to play they come to me. When they want to cook, they go to her. When I BBQ, they run for their lives. I think things change in time, I'm not sure if "grow out of" it is the correct way to identify it - your daughter still defining his role. |

Alternative to the 1-2-3 rule needed We use numbers too... what my son learns is that he can procrastinate until the last second :) |

Changing a child's name Maybe your vision of a "Thomas" will change after time. Maybe you'll identify "Thomas" with your son and not some Platonic ideal "Thomas". Oh... and his appearance will change a lot. |

Golden rule 'do's' and 'don'ts'' when holding a child's party - your experiences are asked! Do require the parents to be there. I've seen many parent drop off their kids and drive away like it's free babysitting. |

5 month old won't fall asleep because she always turns herself onto her stomach @SteveTaylor I would suggest that sleeping between the parents is more dangerous than sleeping on the stomach. |

How can I handle my toddler's bedtime-avoidance tricks? @TorbenGundtofte-Bruun - There's nothing grammatically incorrect with your title. It's a "first glance" at the title that's interesting is all. You're doing a fine job. |

How do you prepare for the “terrible twos”? Nope, just be patient. |

How can I handle my toddler's bedtime-avoidance tricks? Maybe "How can I beat my toddler..." shouldn't be the first couple words of your question. :) |

Attention-promoting activities for a toddler +1 for "toddlers in general have a short attention span". When conditions run in the family, we sometimes find things that are not there. ADD runs in our family too. |
