comment When can/should children start sleeping on pillows?
We waited until the child could crawl, therefore he was able to lift his head and move it (which is one of the concerns). I am interested in hearing what the "official" answer is.

comment Should I tell my 11-year-old daughter that Santa isn't real?
She probably knows already. You should talk to her about the historical Santa.

comment Do newborns have dreams when they sleep?
There is no reason to suppose that they cannot dream. It would be very interesting to see what they dream. I suspect that it would be similar to watching a "trippy" movie since they cannot see well. Probably a bunch of blurry colors, lots of noise, and food. After all, that's all they know.

comment Should I supplement children's education at home?
I'm sorry, but it sounds like you're applying too much pressure. At an early age, it's most important to learn how to interact with others. I've known academically advanced your children who became very uninterested in academics later and life. Similarly I've met brilliant people who were slackers in school. Mostly importantly let your child be your child, not the child you want them to be.

comment Toddler has a strong preference for one parent
Since I don't have a girl (I have 3 sons) I will not make this an answer, just a comment. My sons have always gone to their mothers for comfort. When they want to play they come to me. When they want to cook, they go to her. When I BBQ, they run for their lives. I think things change in time, I'm not sure if "grow out of" it is the correct way to identify it - your daughter still defining his role.

We use numbers too... what my son learns is that he can procrastinate until the last second :)

comment Changing a child's name
Maybe your vision of a "Thomas" will change after time. Maybe you'll identify "Thomas" with your son and not some Platonic ideal "Thomas". Oh... and his appearance will change a lot.

comment Golden rule 'do's' and 'don'ts'' when holding a child's party - your experiences are asked!
Do require the parents to be there. I've seen many parent drop off their kids and drive away like it's free babysitting.

comment 5 month old won't fall asleep because she always turns herself onto her stomach
@SteveTaylor I would suggest that sleeping between the parents is more dangerous than sleeping on the stomach.
