comment What can my girlfriend do for her daughter?
I think following the steps the FTC lists and getting a police report would go a LONG way toward helping her out. If someone else was using her SSN to file for state assistance then clearly her SSN was compromised. I've been in your gf's shoes in terms of a life in shambles and dealing with an ex who has turned my life upside down. It feels like a huge up-hill battle and you don't even know where to start. Encourage her, help her, you may even have to do some of it for her just to get her started. She's overwhelmed and stressed and worried. This might help her regain some of her power.

comment 3 year old won't get out of bed without assistance?
My son STILL does this and he'll be 6 in February--and I have to go physically remove him from his bed almost every morning. If he's getting up when you call him on his own without too much of a fight then it's probably nothing to be overly concerned about.

comment Are “pull-ups” worthwhile?
110% agree. My son could have cared less about pull-ups and moved straight into big boy underwear with the exception of wearing pull-ups at night until he got that under control. My daughter has done well with pull-ups and can wear the same one all day with no accidents if we're out and about (we're still working on stopping to use the potty when we're having fun). Buy a small pack and see what happens. Even if you find you can't use them during the day, you can still use them at nap time/bedtime so it's not like they won't be used at all.

comment Non-alcoholic treatment, medicines, or remedies for infant colic
Yep. Time. Which sucks. And making sure you're burping her thoroughly. No need to give her any more reason to cry by also giving her gas issues. Trust me, if our daughter had been our first child, there would have been no second. But we had colic combined with acid reflux. Basically, our first year with her was hell.

comment When and how to teach a 2 year old how to walk properly
There are times when my five year old still sounds like a herd of elephants coming down our carpeted stairs. It does get better, but she's probably doing it because she likes the sound it makes. Once the newness of that wears off, she'll find something else to drive you crazy with :-) Is it only when she wears shoes in the house or also when she's barefoot? This is one of the reasons why my kids are almost always barefoot in the house. Soooooo much quieter!

comment How does a 3-year-old learn to wear glasses?
@Guillaume: Nope, you didn't misunderstand. She wears contact lenses daily. They are hard lenses so they aren't flexible like regular contact lenses which makes them pretty remarkably easy to insert and remove every morning/evening. She used to fight us, but she's gotten used to it and tolerates it pretty well now. For her condition, contact lenses are the best form of visual rehabilitation for her since her glasses prescription is so high and her glasses so heavy. My husband was born with the same condition and had to wear the glasses as a baby/young child.

comment How to introduce foods to my little girl?
The CDC recently released a report indicating that most children are beginning solids too early and that 6 months is probably a more appropriate age to introduce solids. I know I read it, I'll see if I can go find it...

comment Myopia in my 2 year old toddler
Yeah, if 3 different doctors said the same thing then he probably needs the glasses. Fighting the battle of the glasses-wearing is tough (truthfully, my daughter wears contacts, but she LOVES her glasses when she needs to wear them), but in the long run you know it's what's best for his vision. Failing to wear them now will probably mean even more compromised vision when he's older.
