comment My step son is being treated for ADHD and we are not sure if he should be
Could it be that during weekends and holidays he can simply be active as much as he wants, whereas on school days he has to spend a lot of time sitting and focusing?

comment My 44 month (4 months to 4 yrs) daughter is having HUGE trouble going POOP on the potty
@Siggy - I'm not sure this works with poop, but my son who was completely toilet trained, had heaps of issues using the toilet in daycare. The thing that worked in the end was to let him use diapers for a few months with zero pressure, and then telling him matter-of-factly that once he turns four, no more diapers. Because four-year-olds are big, and big kid's just go to the toilet. We had a perfectly smooth transition, no anxiety, no accidents. He didn't like being praised, so we didn't mention it anymore.

comment How can I help my preschooler develop empathy?
Just my own story here: my kid was the same at 3.5. Just a few months later he started being very sensitive to other people's emotions. He asked for a baby doll to play with and he's very gentle with it. He cries when songs or stories are sad. He's concerned when other kids are crying. Before something clicked in his head, he was very insensitive, and nothing we did helped. So in our case, the cure was: passage of time.

comment What should I do if my 15 year old son is sexually interested in younger boys?
@anongoodnurse - Definitely. Also, the text I left in the first comment to the original post mentions that the only way to be sure after visiting an unsafe website, is to destroy the computer. The police know how to find 'hidden' browsing history.

One of the Amsterdam universities (I forget which, there are two) recently launched a therapy program that includes virtual reality as an outlet. It will probably be quite some time before their results are out, but I can imagine that it can be quite unsafe to indulge in, in the US.

It's funny how stuff moves up, and up, and up as the kids grow... until one day you can put them back down :)

comment How can parents help an adult child with OCD?
I don't have an answer to your question (a therapist probably would - maybe your parents can go to one?), but I wanted to recommend a book which I think gives a great insight into OCD. It's called The boy who couldn't stop washing. It gives you some idea about what the compulsions feel like, and what an OCD person is, or isn't, capable of.

comment TV shows for toddlers that don't teach bad gender and race dynamics
Posted as a comment because I haven't watched it myself: I heard that Peppa pig is pretty nice. The main character is a girl (a female pig), the dad is involved with the kids, different types of animals get along well, etc.
