comment When should I teach my toddler the ABCs?
@A.I.Breveleri I stopped at W, since I have read X for X-mas tree (there aren't any Christians around so can't get to see any christmas tree), Y for Yak (haven't seen any such this in my daily life), Z for Zebra (haven't seen any such this in my daily life). Where I live, word "chain" is used for zipper, and I don't know what is a yardstick.

She is 32 months old and measures 35 cms, and according to you she will be 3 feet 5 inches at 4.5 years of age? Have I understood it correctly?

Thanks for the detailed answer. This is the first time I have measured her height. What should I do now?

but the damage that can be done with a needle isn't permanent. Needle can get into the eye if the child sneezes while holding the needle. You haven't answered the question, BTW. :)

@Stephie thanks, that was encouraging. Though I am confident about her too, but I was afraid to take the decision alone. I think I should give her very big needle -just to be safe?

I am 32 and I still behave the way you described. It is hard to get rid of this habit.

comment How/Should I deal with the playschool teacher who makes the toddler colour by holding her hand?
@Stephie And kudos for being such an attentive parent. Thanks to this site. Before I met this site I was like any other Indian who would merely compromise with the situation or do what elders say because elders are always correct ()!

@LaurentS. Happy to know that. Touch wood. This child has an astonishing attention span when it comes to story reading - from me.

@Stephie I request you to edit the question and add the unasked question and then answer it. Please, that will help us all.

@Stephie Did you notice that not even you managed to colour within the lines? Wow, Yesterday I did think that somewhat would point out that bit. I should have mentioned this in the post itself that I have "delibrately" been careless because I was colouring with the "child".

Thankful for the detailed answer. Not sure why my question has received down votes!

@Erik colour should be within the lines, that is the reason. I didn't know it has anything to do with fine motor skills.

comment How to encourage a 2 year old toddler to complete colouring a sketch?
@rrauenza Does reading the story normally engage her enough? No. It is not surprising. Many words and sentences in the book are not in the vocabulary of the child.

@Raphael I read only english story books to her as my aim is to teach her English. The reason I am bored and tired is that I do not read the words of the book. I use my own words to describe the story depicted by the picture in the book. This requires me to make sounds of animals and various weird expressions which consume a lot of energy. I have to eventually think how should I twist or speak the story such that a 2 year old child can understand. If it were all about simply reading from the book, I wouldn't have been bored at all.

@Raphael I can't. The country is india. Here reading books to a 2 year old is a foreign concept. Very few books are available for a 2 year old kid. She has already 30 books which I have read to her n number of times where n > 15. Amazon.in has imported books which are very expensive here.
