comment How to deal with the story books which indicate stealing to be okay/good?
Can't think of anything right now since when I read that story I was in 7th grade which means 11 years old. The child to whom I will be reading the stories would be of 4 or 5 years old. There is no culture of reading bed time stories in my community. I could get those books only because I had an uncle interested in books. My cousins didn't have access to such books when they were young.

comment Do children start believing in fairies and magic after being read from a book? If yes, then how to respond to “but the book says it is true”?
@anongoodnurse I had written replies here to you and the other person. Why have they been deleted?

That is the problem. I don't know how to discuss that such that a child can understand when to steal and when not to.

Did you believe this at one time? Do you know anyone who believed it at one time? Actually me and my cousins didn't have access to any of these kind of fairy tales in our childhood. All of us here came to know about them when we were grown up enough. So, I don't know whether children do believe in these stories or not.

I'd be grateful if you could expand more on how to explain this in your answer: "If you later say, "Magic isn't real," and your child says, "But my book said it is!" — you've already got a groundwork explanation of what imagination and pretend are all about, and you can bring that information back together."

Harry potter can be read by older children. I am talking about the children who have just started to understand the stories.

Yes, that's why I want to know how to tell the reality behind these fairy tales to the child so that she doesn't start believing that all that is written there is true.

@Erik Can the child say: "But the book says it is true" - How should I respond to that if that happens?

Be thankful that you are not in India, teachers here would given you zero marks for that. Of course we are not the native English speakers so probably we don't pronounce H as you do. :) :)

BTW, I drew an 'H' is wrong. It should be a, isn't it?
