Why won't our infant stop crying when in the car seat? You cannot legally put a 2 month old forward facing. A 1 year old can legally be forward facing and I know of at least one 1 year old who was turned forward facing despite the best practice being to rear-face until between 2 and 4 years of age. However I don't believe in providing illegal advice. |

In what way does reading story books to babies help them (besides falling sleep), and at what age should it be started? Regarding the bonding point, newborns love looking at their parents and so if you sit and read in such a way that they can stare at you from the magic 12" range where they can focus, they love that. |

Convincing 18-month baby to sleep in the morning - using a training clock? What's different during the early wake-up phases? Does his nap schedule need to shift at those points (maybe a little more daytime awake time - even just 15 minutes would make all the difference)? Teething? Does he have signs of a big developmental change afterwards such as a verbal explosion? Does it happen after he goes to bed late or has a short nap for too many days in a row? Those are all possible reasons for the phase, as is, unfortunately, the earlier rising of the sun in summer. |

15 month baby never sleeps through the night I'll emphatically plus one your last sentence. A week is definitely long enough to figure out if you are seeing improvement in a child's sleep or if your efforts are not working. |

Putting a one year old in the crib and shutting door I can think anecdotally of information about how it is valuable for babies to explore and so even playpens as containers over a long period of time are looked down on today. I am also a big, big proponent of good sleep associations, so for us the crib is exclusively for sleep times. Plus the issue that TV is at best neutral and at worst harmful for the under 2 set. But I don't have any solid data to back up the sleep association thing and the contained space thing. |

15 month baby never sleeps through the night I'm surprised that you think that unlearning sleep associations is more difficult with a 15 month old than a 2 1/2 year old. Everything I've read and heard on the subject indicates that older is harder. The book Bedtiming even lists 12-16 months as the second best window (after 5.5-7.5 months) for sleep training from the perspective of what's going on developmentally. |

How can we make our newborn breastfeed less frequently? While this is true for some babies, my experience and the experience of many other mothers is that newborns nurse every 2 hours or so and more frequently during a growth spurt. I also know that many newborns will actively suck for longer than 15-20 minutes a side. During the newborn phase it is so important for the nursing relationship to follow the infant's lead. The time for a more parent-directed schedule is, in my opinion and that of many other successful nursing mothers, after the newborn phase has ended. |

What kind of clothes does a new born need to wear in summers? The only problem with summer baby wearning is that many carriers, at least soft structured ones, are very warm for both mother and baby. |

What should be the ideal sleeping posture in the third trimester of pregnancy? @TorbenGundtofte-Bruun - I agree that the study shouldn't be considered absolutely reliable, but I think it's worth pregnant women noting. Anecdotally I know that pregnant women are often told to switch which side they are lying on when their kids go into fetal distress (heart rate dropping) during labor and it makes a difference, but I don't know if that is labor specific. |
