comment How do we teach our toddler that it's okay to go on the potty?
@Torben I know how the history works. I don't mean to be critical, but I don't believe my comment really meant approval, per se, which is why I left the comment to clarify my intent. I do feel that it has diverged from the purpose that I asked the question, but since you thought my original title wasn't good, and I couldn't think of a new way to put it, I left it.

I think the title has been changed by someone else which really diverged away from the point of my question. When he gets on the toilet, he's goes just fine. But, he doesn't like it, so before we get him on the toilet, he tells us that he can just stay dry and not have to go.

@TorbenGB I struggled with the title, so I appreciate your help. In our case, it's not that he doesn't know it's OK - it's more that he's scared, and believes that he can just hold it forever to avoid it. We want to teach him that even though it's good to hold it, he will have to go eventually, and he needs to do it when he feels it.

comment What should we pack when going camping with an infant?
As for the swimming, you don't need to be concerned as long as you plan to be holding her the whole time. Because of that, a life jacket would probably not be useful, except to maybe take some weight off your arms. We've always just gone with floating rings they can sit in for the pool, but that might not be practical in the ocean.

I was just wondering if I was misunderstanding.

comment How strict should we be with our 14 month old boy?
oh don't worry, I'm not under any pretenses that it is! And to be fair, rereading the question, you've answered what was being asked completely anyway.

I agree with this completely, but, I would love to know the best approach "how" not to let them, as that's where we've struggled with our kid (we are consistent in our rules, but we have a hard time finding a way to stop the behavior that doesn't cause him to escalate his behavior).
