Hyperemesis in second pregnancy if not in first? My wife had hyperemesis with our first child, and was admitted into hospital on two occasions. For the second, she had morning sickness, but nothing as severe. |

How do I tell my parents that my wife and I are pregnant? Congratulations. My sister phoned my Mum on Mother's day, and casually wished her a "Happy Grandmother's Day". It took her a little while to work it out, but when she did... :-) |

Is orange juice (or vitamin C) a stimulant? Isn't it more likely to be the sugar? |

How can I pick my son up from daycare without a struggle? In my experience, this can be a dangerous game. Essentially, by saying that you're leaving, you are bluffing. Some kids will call your bluff and refuse to chase after you. If that happens, you are caught out, and the child may start to get suspicious of anything you say. |

Can putting a one year old baby in a playschool for around 7 hours, daily, cause any psychological issues to the baby? My son started nursery at 4 months. (We'd rather have waited, but circumstances dictated.) It's really not right to think of it as "throwing" them in. Nursery/playschool is a fun and caring place where your child can develop and learn, with trained professionals to help. That said, it's important not to leave your child somewhere you don't feel comfortable with. Maybe you could look at some nurseries, and talk to the staff? |

Should I encourage my 2½ year old to attempt to “read” his own stories? Thanks. Where did people come from? |

Should I encourage my 2½ year old to attempt to “read” his own stories? As long as it was just the ads and not the graffiti :-) |

How to avoid corporal punishment? I agree with Mathew. No blame being attached here. But if you genuinely feel like you can't maintain control over yourself, there are anger-management classes that could help you. Goodness knows, if anything is going to test you to your limits, it's your own children. I really do sympathise, but please seek help. |

Can I help settle my child and make them enjoy nappy changing Our friends have been using these since their little boy was a baby, and have found them great. I always thought they were for potty-training, and had my doubts about how to take them off when full of poo. But turns out they work well as normal nappies, and can be ripped off easily. |

Do dummies (“pacifiers”) hinder speech development? @Mathew Foscarini. Yes "dummy" is the normal word in England. |

How can I encourage my toddler to walk and not be carried? I guess you're right. We are trying to do exactly this, and have been for a while. It's just that- well, sometimes you don't have time to wait out the tantrum because you're pushed for time. |

How to reverse a new born's sleeping schedule? Firstly, congratulations! Secondly, I'm in the same boat- Ours is 13 days old now, and my wife and I just feel like zombies. I asked a similar question a few days ago, and it looks like the best advice is to just wait it out. They'll learn eventually. |

How to handle a toddler does not want to fall asleep? @Torben Our 2 year old has an almost identical pattern, except that he does wake during the night too. So I really feel your pain. Maybe it's just their age? |

Is it traumatic for a toddler to be left in their bedroom with the door shut? The method you describe about being a "living wall" is more or less the same as the "Stay in bed" technique I mentioned. It just doesn't seem to be effective enough for me. He normally has his tea at about 5-5.30pm. Generally he eats ok, and I certainly haven't noticed an obvious correlation between bad mealtimes and bad nights. |

Advice for carrying out the “Stay in Bed” technique with our 2-year-old @tomjedrz: You may be right (I hope you are!) I'm certainly suspicious on Supernanny how every show follows the exact same basic format. 1) Family in crisis 2) Supernanny visits and gives advice 3) Supernanny leaves and family struggles 4) Supernanny returns and admonishes 5) Happy ever after. |

Advice for carrying out the “Stay in Bed” technique with our 2-year-old @Torben That does sound like the most fitting explanation. He really fights sleep once he's woken in the night. |
