@user3143: Seriously? It's common sense. You can't learn hard mathematics unless you've learnt the easy mathematics.

comment Are clothes needed for a newborn?
One more point is that clothes are good for swaddling the baby, keeping it fairly tightly wrapped so that it maintains the feeling of closeness it had in the womb.

Persistence. You could also walk away.

comment Is organic whole cow's milk better than “toddler milk” powder for a 1 year old?
I'd say YES. If the toddler is eating regular proper meals, then don't waste your money on something you already admit is pushed by a lobby. Formula won't hurt your child, but it does hurt your pocket.

comment How can I help my one year old transition to sleeping in crib?
Our 3 year old still sleeps in our bed. It's cosy, but we're hoping she'll move to her own bed one day.

I think the UNICEF idea is a very good one. Essentially saying, we've got enough stuff, give to someone truly in need.

Alcoholism is a disease, not an escape mechanism.

comment Why would a child choose to sleep on the floor?
Nice answer. I used to love sleeping in other places and other positions: upside down on the bed, under the table, ....

comment Advice on Dealing with Other People's Children Taking Items From My One Year Old
The book says that when Suzy is finished with the toy, then she should share it, but not until that point. Let her keep the toy for hours on end. Johnny can find another toy. Also, it is not okay for either Johnny or his parents to force the situation on Suzy. (Too late to chat.)

@anongoodnurse: The reasoning in the book I mention in my post is that if you build up the trust in the "It's okay not to share" situation, the child will become better at sharing because they will learn to understand that sharing does not have negative consequences – remember that the child cares only about being safe, including not having its toys taken away. Teaching the child that the world is full of jerks does not enhance this feeling of safety. That can wait, methinks.
