comment How do I wean my 2 year old from requiring holding my hand to sleep?
Great suggestion @meganaimous. She has a teddy bear and a doll, but she is not so attached to them where they're the sole object that she depends on for comfort and security. We tried ways to get her to associate security with the bear and the doll but it hasn't worked yet.

@Chriys I was thinking this while I was trying to do the timing/soothing method. I hope this hand holding for soothing phase will pass.

comment My two year old has a lisp. Should i try to correct her now?
Chrys - I was trying to show her how to form her mouth and how to place her teeth to make the "s" sound. It's funny that she continues to stick her tongue between her teeth and makes the 'th' sound.

comment What to buy to prepare for the arrival of a new baby?
+1 for the cordless phone trick for home. You still may want to have a baby monitor for when you travel.

comment What toys tend to be a child's favorite, and why?
My 14 month old daughter loves to turn the stereo on/off...as a matter of fact, anything with a button that has an immediate/discernable response(music, light, etc.) becomes a favorite...she always goes back to the object and presses the button.

comment When is a banana ripe enough to not cause constipation?
I agree that hydration is a big factor. I didn't use to think that ripeness mattered, but there were many sources that I read which indicates that it does. I think that part of the inconsistent conclusions regarding bananas/ripeness/constipation is due to the subjective determination of 'ripeness' of a banana. :) Please see my update above.

comment What are the proper precaution for using cow's milk to feed babies?
Sorry @DA01, the question initially was misleading because it mentions pumped breast milk which is usually for younger infants. :)

comment Installing car seat base…how tight is good enough?
One thing to keep in mind is to periodically check the snugness of the fit. I found that over time, the seat cushion stays compressed and doesn't offer as much resistance. So, I've had to push again with my foot as I tighten the straps.

comment Is there any scientific evidence in favor of co-sleeping with children?
We have a technique for cosleeping which I think reduces the accidental asphyxiation from smothering (just speaking intuitively, I don't have any stats). We actually put the baby between us, at the same head level as us. We move our pillows so that she has about a foot or so of space. We started doing this when she was about 4 months old. It has worked out well for us.

comment 5 month old won't fall asleep because she always turns herself onto her stomach
@Shauna She is very strong and can lift her head up. She can arch her back and head without even using the arms. When she uses her arms she can push up really high.

comment 5 month old won't fall asleep because she always turns herself onto her stomach
@SteveJackson - Once she can flip from her back to her stomach or vice versa? My baby can only flip onto her stomach but not back to her back.

Good question. Sorry that my question wasn't clear enough. :) Please see my clarification.

comment Are modern cloth diapers really cost efficient compared to disposible diapers?
The one issue with gDiapers is that you still have to buy different sizes as the baby grows. So if you are not planning on having another kid, you won't be able to reuse. We are using prefolds with diaper covers and we love them. We also have a few FuzziBunz hand-me-downs and they are great too. They have snaps that adjust as the baby grows. The new ones have adjustable elastic tension around the legs and the upper back. You can also use prefolds with the FuzziBunz as the cover.

comment What are good ways to clean plush toys?
Great advise Torben. When we buy toys we will definitely look for machine washable. (We have a bunch that were given as gifts...I'll try the lukewarm water with mild soap suggestion...although I'm not sure how we would rinse off the soap...I guess with just more lukewarm water)

comment Silicone bottle nipple, usually has a whitish film after washing and drying? Why is this the case?
@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun We only sterilize once in awhile...the other times we just wash with hot soapy water.

comment How to soothe a 4 1/2 month old during our night time sleep routine?
We're trying very hard to not let her cry it out. Fussing is ok, but not crying.

comment How to soothe a 4 1/2 month old during our night time sleep routine?
Good suggestion @justky. Side/Stomach doesn't calm her anymore. Swaddle only works some of the time because now she wants her arms free to suck on her hand.

5 S's are great. We used it but she grew out of a Side/Stomach...she doesn't feel calm when on her side or stomach anymore. We swaddle her but now she fights it a lot more because she likes her arms to be out so that she can suck on her hand. 3,4 & 5 are still great. :)

comment Is it okay for an infant to sit in a regular stroller? Does position matter?
I feel your pain regarding not being able to see my baby's face as she explores the world in the front facing stroller. :)
