comment How do you decide if a movie is suitable for young children?
I agree with @David here - I wouldn't have thought that certain parts of the movies I pre-screened were that scary to our children but seemingly harmless sections have given then persistent nightmares, so I'll be following Common Sense Media from now.

Agreed - this is an excellent resource. I wish they'd separate Sex from Nudity - some cultures have different tolerances in these areas. Their ratings for Terminator 3, Monsters Inc and Sleeping Beauty are good and the explanations do give rationale.

Okay, that's a good website. When I saw Terminator 3, I was appalled that there were 5-year olds in the cinema with us (it's 12A in UK), particularly as it has pretty much non-stop violence throughout, even if that's only between two robot characters. The PBBFC analysis does actually call this out, which is great, but I still think the film is more (15) than (12), given the sadistic violence between the robots - that look perfectly like people.

Supernanny US is the same lady as from Supernanny UK, which may help UK members understand.

A chew toy is perhaps a little kinder than raw artichoke :-)

Why is this a problem? It's perfectly natural for babies to suck their hands or toes.

@HedgeMage: how about "usually, mummy goes to hospital and a doctor or nurse helps get the baby out. In some places, the doctor or nurse comes to your house and in others, mummy's friends and relatives help"

How much is in the cup? Can you get away with reducing the amount gradually over time?
