I have been programming in Java (client server applications) for many many years (since the early days). I also have been programming in Delphi which I liked very much as a programming environment.

I also have some programming experience in web development (JSP/JavaBeans).

The past few months I have decided to give Python/Django a spin and I am pretty happy with my decision. I might also try RoR. But at the moment Django is my language of choice.

During my spare time, I take care of my family and write music. You can find some of my compositions here: http://being-without.tumblr.com

comment How can I encourage my 4.5 year old daughter to eat without needing tons of time along with play?
Thank you. I have two questions: (1) What would a proper "mental time limit" be for a dinner (or launch)? (2) She always drink a bottle of milk just before bed time. What shall we do if she didn't have dinner before? (Or her dinner was just some bites)

Thank you. Another problem is that she thinks that drinking milk is like having dinner or launch. I am afraid that she would stay at the table having 4-5 bites, then wait with us until eating time is over and playing time is on, knowing that milk is coming afterwards.

To be honest I also quoted Steve Jobs' comment about death on his speech at Stanford (2005) where he said that "death is very likely the single best invention of life. It's life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new." :)

No it is not a duplicate. I have read this thread before asking mine. My question is not only on how to talk about death. The main idea is the fact that my kid expressed the fact that she is afraid of death. Talking about death comes as a side effect.

Thanks a lot. Can you tell me at what age a toddler stops being called "toddler"?

Much thanks for your very good answer. Concerning the two bullets (a) It was my instantaneous reaction to her play. I can assure you that she didn't know what "being dead" means. She must have thought that "being dead" is similar to "being asleep" (b) She only had a minor experience with death before when a big wild bird attacked and decapitated our little yellow canary. Of course she wasn't there on the scene, but she learned afterwards what had happened. However, this took place last year.

unfortunately, because of the recession my country goes under, most community pools have been shut down. The same holds for other artistic or sports activities municipalities offered in the past (painting, ballet, football, etc). That is why I said we can only afford one of them. Because we now have to pay.

I like the approach of having a family discussion writing down pros & cons, including the kid. I totally agree that it is a good precursor for helping future more serious family issues
